Is it okay to submit our entry to other game jams here on itch.io that are running during the same period? I'd like to submit a kind of demo for a game jam that finishes sooner (https://itch.io/jam/my-first-game-jam-summer-2018), and then continue working on the game and submit a more polished version here. Thanks!
That is completely alright and part of the reason we have it set up the way that we do. After the jam has finished, judges will have a month to go over the entries and at that point the winners will be showcased on our site like this: http://tyranobuilder.com/summer-jam-15-winners/ we dont even host the game so you will have have full ownership over your creation the whole time.
The goal of the jam is to help you take a project that may just be an idea and turn it into a project that you can make commercial.
30mins is the cutoff time, ideally even with a teaser you want to go through the five stages of a story so while it is acceptable you may want to modify your teaser to go through all the stages:
Exposition: Setting the scene.
Rising action: Building the tension.
Climax: The exciting bit.
Falling action: Tidying up loose ends.
Resolution: Ending the story.
You dont have to share the ending of the story, just make sure you leave them on a note were some resolution has occurred so that there is some satisfaction for finishing the story. Many times these show up in the form of story arcs within the story.
Heya :3 I've had a lot going on in my life recently and so have started my entry pretty late into the jam. I'm not even sure if I'm going to be able to finish it, but I was just wondering if entries with under 30 mins playtime are still acceptable? Because I was thinking that maybe it would be better if I shortened the story/playtime and actually finished it, as opposed to submitting an incomplete story, haha. I may manage just fine anyway, but I thought I should still check in case! :3
Ooooooh, my bad, the status was draft >w<

Hi! Neeka is my sister and was asking on my behalf. Sorry that this is so late! I was having problems uploading mine, but didn't think I'd be able to submit it past the submission deadline. I couldn't find a way to PM you. I didn't realize how long it would take to upload my game, and then I uploaded it without all the files in the extract folder... Is there still I way I can submit it somehow? I'd have to reupload it with the other files, though. Wasn't sure how to do this.
We just released the results, to check out the judging go here: https://www.nyu-media.com/summer-game-jam-2018-winners
Your battle system really made it feel like an RPG, I really enjoyed how you could take something so off the wall but have a system and world that fit so well, it was a real joy playing the game and I was never sure where the story was going to take me. the fights were odd but had enough cues to lead you in the right direction and I actually ended up caring for the characters.
