i did not think that chemistry can be fun

I have made some little improvements to the game which I will hopefully upload after the rating period ends. One big change I made was to make the table programmatically rather than hard-coding the information in the scene and HOO BOY did I pick the correct approach for the jam. As it was it took me about 30+ minutes to create the layout of the table. The programmatic version took almost 2 hours but now the game feels complete and each element shows its number, abbreviation and full name rather than just the abbreviation.

Improvements:

  • Fixed a couple of erroneous elements
  • More element information
  • Better category colouring
  • I made it so that elements will snap to the nearest slot on the table which feels nicer.
  • I made it so the game only ends when you let go of the last correctly placed element instead of as soon as it enters the correct slot.
I would still like to tweak the font so it's not so easy to mistake some elements BUT the atomic number definitely helps, especially if you know how the periodic table works!

This is lots of fun!

I really like the concept - I feel like this could be a great tool for teaching about the periodic table! Definitely had a bit of fun finding where everything went.

A surprising amount of quality..!
The papers were fun ;)

The game idea is great, even though it doesn't match the theme much.

And the placement of each misplaced element was good imo! Had fun finding your lil' tricks.

And good stuff by Powell :D

Thanks :) Regarding the theme, originally the idea was that the game would only end if Boron (the fifth element) was the last placed element but I had too much trouble setting everything up and I thought it would confuse people too much so I dropped that idea.

I really like your premise. I managed to get it by 1860 despite the fact I was sure I was going to miss the 1869 mark. I found the various pieces well placed and solving the puzzle was an enjoyable challenge verses easy or confusing. Great accomplishment for 3 hours!

Cute game! Not quite sure why I failed, but I liked having to dig through papers and stuff to find the right elements.

uh cool concept but i dont know the periodic table because im 10 so yea

VERY nicely done. couldn’t find one element… All the others were well hidden and it helps if you know some of the elements and their order - you can spot some traps – however, one was missing - but thats not a bug - i just didnt find it in time i guess :)

Thanks :) I can confirm the first run of the game isn't randomised so all the elements are definitely there. There is a little glitch where sometimes if you move a piece of paper it can pick up an element with it so maybe you lost one under one of the sheets 😅

Really cool idea! Is it possible to win? I think i placed all the elements and nothing happens. Also the font on the elements is a bit hard to read.

Developer

Hi thanks :). Yes it should be possible to win but some of the letters in the font look VERY similar, the worst offenders are lower case r and a so Br and Ba look very similar for example :(
