Oh man. This one was wild. Admittedly, I got a bit frustrated with the inconsistency of the clicking and dragging windows, but the concept was just too strong for me to not love it. I've only seen a couple games out there that play with windows, but not like this, and I've never played one myself. Especially with the sfx for piecing yourself back together, it really makes you feel like an unstoppable automaton. I even took it a step further and played with a friend over Parsec, one person repairing and one person shmup-ing, and it was pretty cool!
Concept is fricking rad. The body window blew my mind.
Game is fun overall, but some spells are just ridiculously hard to dodge at high difficulty.
I get that difficulty increases and that it's danmaku, but like, give me some space please, I can't dodge the stars while keeping myself between these spinning lasers, I can't even put a 1-person bed in this tiny space:
Also there's just enough time, just a single second to spare, to shoot down the boss, which is too strict I think. Having 3 seconds to spare would have been greater for the game feel.
Moreover if the boss moves around frequently then even with a full body you won't be able to shoot her down, that's downright unfair.
It's a bit hard to drag the limbs around, but we're already aware of that.
Also what's the point of flash-bombing if it does the same as when you're hit?
Mayumi is hidden by the corners' HUD too, not great when the danmaku forces you towards the sides.
Despite all the things above, game's still well worth checking out for the amazing concept and its execution.
At first I was wondering why the controls are in WASD, but then I got my answer. Phenomenal concept of gameplay, although I do wonder if the multiple windows are needed for this mechanic to work as it felt a bit clunky dragging the windows sometimes. The story fits so well and the music is also very nice. Amazing work!
Any chance of a Linux version? It doesn't seem to run in WINE.
Yeah, Linux version up now.
Thanks! This is wild.
Unfortunately, it barely works for me: it keeps switching focus to the body part windows in a way that takes away control from the main window, resulting in me being unable to move Mayumi most frames. The behavior is probably window manager dependent. I'll see if I can figure out a way to make it work for me.
You always come up with great concepts but this is quite possibly your best one yet. Outstanding job.
This is SO COOL!!!! Easily my favorite entry of the Jam so far. I'd love to see this fleshed out more in a "full" game. The difficulty scaling could use a bit touching up, and it'd be nice for the whole game to be contained in a single window so you can have Mayumi's parts all in the same UI, but this is SUCH a neat concept that was executed really well!
