Creative Vision / Rationale / How Did You Incorporate the Theme
Hierophants is a 2D platformer where you collect stars to grow plants and reach new heights.
But to unlock the true ending, more stars are required than one player can gather alone.
At the end of the game, a letterbox invites the player to send their stars to someone else.
By generously giving away all the stars they worked so hard to collect — expecting nothing in return — they offer another player the chance to experience the true ending.

Oh boy, where do I begin? How does this game not have more ratings?
The visuals are stunning! I absolutely loved the use of color between the foreground and background, it helps the player character stand out while still fitting in with the environment. The animations are also top notch, I like the followthrough once the player stops moving.
The plant growing mechanic is really unique — although I wish there a slight hint that holding shift would make the plant taller — and I like the animation that accompanies it too. Similarly, the platforming is nicely balanced, I didn’t particularly struggle at any point.
I only really have a few critiques. I’m not the most fond of the camera movement when the player stops moving— the way it keeps moving before jerking to a halt and then slowly inching back to the center. I understand the appeal and others might like it, it just wasn’t for me. I also think the bag becomes too crowded the more stars you have. I’m not sure what the alternative would be, I just wish it didn’t looks so cluttered. And lastly, while I dig the vignette effect in the underground area, it does become almost impossible to see at some point with the majority of the screen being engulfed in darkness, so I wish there was some way to use the stars as a light source.
Aside from that, phenomenal game, one of my favorites in the jam! Kudos to your team!
LOVED the art style, animations very satisfying, and it was a cool gameplay mechanic. I also liked the music a lot, but it would have been nice if it played more often.
Really beautiful art and game design! I really liked collecting all the starts and growing the plants.
I really like the art direction and the tech for growing the plants was done really well. Really cool
