What feedback are you looking for
I'm really hoping to iron out the dialogue. If there's anything that sounds weird, or any typos. Anything that makes the dialogue feel out of place for the characters in this world.
Another piece of feedback that would be nice is how the amount of chores feel. As it is, I'm planning on adding more, but I don't want to overwhelm the player with "fetch quests".

Mouse is working way better for me than previously. Didnāt have time to get as far as I wanted but the dialogue is really helpful (and I appreciated the political commentary there, lol). I think I somehow started in Debug mode with all chores optional so I couldnāt see the list either, though the arrow was helpful. Changing the chores from day to day makes sense and they didnāt feel too extreme for how far I got.
Yay! Happy to see a lower amount of bug reports. I'm glad the neighbor felt like a grumpy old guy. Hopefully the visuals next round will make him feel really fleshed out.
The pointer capture is broken on firefox - it is browser API issue but you can fix it by adding full screen option on the itch io game settings :)
Good to know. I'll have to add that to my testing list since I know that's a really popular browser. Thanks for the heads up on the fix too, really appreciate it!
Hey I played. I think this is an interesting concept. It would take a good amount of art and polish, but I think you could pull it off. Here some feedback notes I have:
-Some of the action boxes are too specific, like you have to stand in a very specific (and weird) spot to get the wood to chop. Same for the fire and cow.
-There was a bug with the dialog, where a previous one never cleared, and so I couldn't read anything after that (this was like the 3rd day)
-I ran into a lock on one play through with the idols. I think I picked them all up at once, or place one then picked up another before sleeping, then this locked me so I couldn't progress. I did it right the second time, though. Then I seem to have gotten locked right before the 10th day (!!!). Am I the first-born son? What was gonna happen! Maybe it's better I got locked.
-I like some of what you've done with the plagues already, and I imagine you can make it pretty epic
-I think you should brainstorm more clever ways for the chores to evolve based on the plagues. You've already got some of this, like with clearing the dead fish. But I feel like that could be really engaging. Like you've got this routine that you build up, but then subvert it in different ways because of the plagues. Like now all of the crops are eaten by locusts so collect dead locusts for us to eat. And it's dark now, so you have to cut more wood for the fire to get light. And if you could figure out a way for the player to get really attached to the cow, that could be an emotional story beat.
Anyway, just some thoughts. Like I said I think it could be an interesting concept. Good luck on continued development!
Thanks for the feedback, and bug report! I suspected the dialogue bug might happen since I refactored all that code to allow for additional chores. The good news is I have another item for next month's jam. Hopefully I'll have more assets and interactions available next too. I was already thinking of a better delivery method for the idols, so fixing those locks should be doable too.
TLDR, thanks for playing, and thanks again for the detailed feedback!
Feedback:
I thought that some of the dialogue was weird, especially the one neighbour's bit about "immigrants". It really felt out of place, and I thought it doesn't fit the context, nor does the discourse fit the time period. I think possibly what would make more sense is for him to take issue with the Israelites worshipping other god(s) than the Egyptians, or the monolatry of the Israelites (maybe he just doesn't like them worshipping one god instead of many) depending on what year this takes place in.
I felt that maybe the dialogue with the fire was possibly unneccesary, or it needed to be more enlightening - It wasn't clear what I was really doing there with the fire and it didn't clarify what the chore with the fire was.
I think that the game maybe needs sound and a tutorial and the conversation with the mother would be a good place to provide that possibly.
The font for the dialogue did seem big and it does stretch to fit the screen width - possibly if there was some gap and the colorrect background had slightly rounded corners?
I did get confused with the quest pointer because it vanishes when you get close to the objective? But I did like the way that it moved around, kinda bouncing from side to side.
I felt that the number of chores you need to do feels high considering they need to be done the next day also - maybe on the first day if you only needed to do one and then this ramps up a bit so you can meet characters near the chores? and then by the time you get into the full plague stuff you can kinda know where the people are to talk to for the narrrative elements.
I also found a bug where if you repeatedly interact with the cow, then the game crashes.
This is all great feedback. Definitely bookmarking this comment for next month. Also, thanks for breaking the game! I'll take a look at why interacting with the cow multiple times breaks it. I do have to agree with the sounds / visuals needing an update. That's next on the ticket for me to add.
Thanks for playing, and thanks so much for the in depth feedback.
