Wow, this game is incredible! I haven't unlocked all the areas yet, but I'm already looking forward to returning and exploring more, lingering, seeing who else has come through and what traces they've left.

Hyper impressive, at first I thought that leaving a message wouldn't be taken into account by the game, then I recognized the pseudonyms of people I knew in the world of interactive fiction, and immediately it became great to realize that you could participate in the game universe, you could even create a game within the game, it's just too good.
REALLY cool! There was an art project some years back called Kool-Aid Man in Second Life, which was just a video log of a person with a Kool-Aid Man avatar exploring an almost totally empty MMO. It was melancholy, funny, almost archaeological. This gave me the same vibe. Nice glimpses of what the real world is like in this setting, too.
I played around with leaving messages in different places. Sometimes they took a while to load--not sure which end that was on.
Glad you liked it! I gotta check out Kool-Aid Man in Second Life now, that sounds straight up my alley. The database stuff for messages is tricky, don't think I have an easy way to speed things up at the moment, but I might look more and see if I can do anything. Good catch with the real world details, and thank you for playing.
I know exactly which part of The Beginner's Guide you're talking about! Man, by leaving this message you just reminded me that I meant to add that game to the list of inspirations in the author's note, then never got around to it. Will have to update the about section once the comp is over.
It's a great game, too. Probably one of my favorite games ever made. (To anyone else reading this, I highly recommend it!)
