Good god! That giant deer scared the crap outta me. Couple that with the spike in spawns and it's surprisingly panic inducing! At first I thought the enemy spawns past 70-80% radio was insanely unfair but was pleasantly surprised by how utilizing the stealth somewhat balanced it out.
Nice submission!
The art for this game was on point, I really loved the different character designs and some of the enemies looked absolutely terrifying. I thought it was a very polished looking, with a minimal but still informative UI that didn't mess with the overall vibe of the game. Having the world loop around was a neat touch, and I liked that the radio parts were scattered randomly (although sometimes they overlapped a bit). I'm impressed you managed to do two playable characters - although their mechanics weren't that different, it was a nice touch and meant I played multiple times to try each one out.
Introducing more (and more difficult) enemies every so often did increase the difficulty, but towards the end it felt a little bit too much. It was especially a shame because the last enemies had some really cool designs, but I was usually too focused on trying to run to a hiding spot/the next part to really pay them any attention. I'm not sure what percentages were unlocking the newer enemies, but I didn't get to see the human deer/regular deer until the 60-80% range, which felt very late. I would maybe have either introduced them earlier on but lessened the total number of enemies, or given the spawning a weighting that produced less of the early enemies.
Really speaking the only thing that was a problem was the agility of the character. Jumping over the pits was a pain, and I died more times trying to get over them than I did by the enemy attacks. I feel like if they're going to be that hard then at least preventing the enemies from moving over them would make it a little bit more fair.
Overall though this was a fantastic submission, with a really polished look and feel. With a couple of gameplay tweaks I think it would be a neat little game!
Its been said already but I really have to say again just how beautiful the art for this one is. Its always effective to mix cute and creepy together hehe :-D.
Great work!
the art, animations and atmosphere of this game are amazing, didn't expect those huge creatures, went hiding right away. Having 2 characters is a really cool fature for a jam game. The "human like" creature is also nightmare fuel.
Gameplay is nice, specially running towards hiding from all those monstrosities. I feel some mechanics need a bit of polish, like the attack, specially in darryl where there a no arrows in his attack. Also, didn't like the pits and the fact that the monsters can go right beyond them, maybe making the pits not an automatic death could be an improvement.
Overall a great entry with a strong presentation.
Art and animations are incredible! Nice game!
Love the art style! All the monsters are very scary looking. Definitely gets a little overwelming towards the end as the monsters are so abundant. That might be a good thing though. Had me play through a few times to get a win. Fun game! Did the Flasher not make it in as a playable character? I thought it was like someone you would save or something in the title screen but then I saw them in the character select screen screenshot.
Thanks! There was meant to be more characters to play, half of them we had to decline in the proces, Flasher was close to be in game, yet, finally there was not enough of time to add her :P
I get it friend. Definitely been at the point where you gotta cut stuff to make sure the project is finished. Was just curious! Always excited to try out all the characters! :)
Hi, thanks a lot! ^^ ( artist here ) Happy you checked out our game! There were actually 3 (or 4, counting the photo girl ) more playable characters planned, that would feature different mechanics and play styles. (Among other things) But that turned out to be a bit much, for the jam's time limit. However, it still was a very fun project to work on.
