This was delightful! I liked the ambience and the assets, it really painted a vivid picture of what this could turn into. The idea of using a TV screen for a ritual instead of a painted mirror is also a cool story idea--makes me think about what other modern versions of old rituals I could envision, and how that translation might lead to unintended consequences.

You should be proud of what you made, especially given the context of the programming background. Feel free to reach out for help next game-jam, assuming you didn't already, I'm sure there'd be people willing to help fill in technical gaps if this is the sort of stuff you're pulling together!

cant wait to see your prototypes once you guys do have coding experience! im being so fr rn, message me once this game is done i really wanna try it out!

That’s a good introduction for a non-coding team of 2. The spooky ambiance is well set, menu and interface look good, I wish to be threatened by the entity, especially after looking at the concept art well made drawings (it is nice to share them in the game, thanks!) Hope you will have some time to make it playable.

OOf i like this one. Nice start for a horror game man. Gave it a five star rating would be great if you did the same :)

Considering you made this without prior coding experience it's actually a very attractive concept piece!
I would genuinely like to see this game continue to be fleshed out as the art and ambience is definitely there!

If you need some good resources to get you working with UE blueprints don't hesitate to message me through the jam discord, I have so many tutorials saved from over the years i can link you. =)

Thank you! I might take you up on that. Appreciate it :)

This is a promising start for a good horror game! The setting and mood of the game are appropriately creepy. The red overlay and the noise will be excellent when you guys add the entity; it'll be nerve-racking!

My very humble suggestion might be to have a simpler control scheme—perhaps a single interact button for every action. I can see myself getting a bit flustered trying to hide from the evil entity, only to get confused at the controls for a split second and die because of it.

Other than that, it looks really promising! Keep up the great work!

EDIT: Also, the concept art looks sick! Cool stuff!

Developer

Thanks for kind words! I do agree the controls are a bit much, I just honestly was not sure how to use one key for multiple things without getting game breaking bugs. But I'm glad you enjoyed the art!

Promising start! I'd recommend changing the hide key though; unless it was placed far away for a purpose, H is a little out of the way to reflexively use during gameplay. Great work on the atmosphere, concept art was cool, too. Keep it up!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah that's a good point, I just honestly started by making it H for hide xD

I think the game is a bit to heavy on the post processing effects. They'd probably work well when you've changed to the scene but It's a bit much for just regular gameplay.

Thanks for the feedback!

I really liked the shader that tints the screen red. The movement feels smooth, and aesthetically, it's very pleasing. Great job!

Thank you!

Love love love the art! The menu screen, death screen and the pages (especially the hand drawn stuff) looks so good. Huge fan! Very intriguing concept as well and the monster design looks very menacing.

I hope you get to work more on this and finish it, even if you didn’t have enough time during the game jam. For artist with no prior programming experience, you’ve done a great job! Keep it up!

Really glad you enjoyed it! Thanks :)
