I absolutely loved the story and the gameplay variety! It was nice to see a message like this delivered in such an appropriate context, considering that the players will be mostly game devs from this jam lol. In addition, the levels in general were really fun and challenging enough, which I personally enjoy.

My only issue were two possible bugs. The auto-runner level had a part where you have to jump to one of two brown platforms (each with one spike), and then there's a long sequence of shooting blocks which shoot extremely rapidly, and they were near impossible to dodge. I have the feeling that the player was supposed to crouch under the bullets during that part, but gravity made those bullets fall, so it was impossible to dodge them like that. I also noticed that the rock sprites had a black background which didn't allow the player to see beyond them, but that might've been intentional (shown in picture).

Either way, this game was really fun to play, and it definitely has that "So bad it's good" feel to it. Great entry!

wow, that is weird. Bullets are not supposed to have gravity lol, I have no clue how you managed to dodge that, you are a champ lol. Also idk whats happening with the rocks and trees there, seems fine for me, and other people who streamed for me. My friend had audio errors that nobody else had, so it might be something with the engine idk. Thank you for playing btw! I really apreciate you completing the game, cuz i think not a whole lot of people did that.

Man after seeing so many vids of this and reading your messages about this game in development its great to finally play it!

The premise is interesting as a more meta game, which was cool but STOLEN SFX! BAD GAME! I VILL DRINK FROM YOUR SKULL!

I really liked the switch from shooter to platformer to run-n-gun shooter, which was really cool to see as someone who has attempted a fast-paced shooter in SBIG before! I will say the choice of adding lots of checkpoints was a good one, there was a bit more death than I would typically like in a jam game but the short recovery time made up for it. I found I died in the platforming sections more than the shooting ones, especially in the autorunner where it felt like I was getting killed by just barely clipping the edge of an obstacle. So I might recommend shrinking the players collider for that section.

I also found it could somtimes be hard to see incoming enemy bullets, I almost wonder if it would be better to make them unlit or unaffected by lighting so they really pop out of the environment. The checkpoints made some of the bigger shooting sections not that bad, and I've played enough shooters to know to strafe and jump and click like crazy. But I can definitely see why some players not as experienced in shooters would have issues playing this.

Back to the positives, the cutscenes and voice acting was great! I know we both used some of the same actors who I think did just a bang-up job, and hearing the voiceovers and seeing all the flaoting comments in that final level was a real treat. Overall this was really cool!

Nice work!

That's a nice head you have on your shoulders......

I saw this on stream today and figured, this looks super cool, but there's no way I'm going to be able to finish it. I was right about that, though I got further than expected. I made it about halfway through the second level (platformer) before giving up.

I love the concept of this and the meta narrative, but the difficulty and frustration factor are both way too high for a jam game. I've played first person shooters and platformers before; someone without that experience probably won't even get a far as I did. Which is shame, because from what I've seen it gets more interesting later on.

Yeahh, I may have gotten carried away with level 2 (and possibly level 4). Thanks for playing and putting up with my bs level design lol. I will be releasing a version that makes level 2 easier HOPEFULLY. <3

(Actual review lol)

I have to  admit I  did not  know what to expect when playing this game. I certainly didn't expect my PC to blue-screen immediately upon playing 😂 No idea why that happened lol.

The concept is really fun, and as an indecisive  game developer myself, I  very much resonate with this story. I made a game about 5 or so years ago called "PLACEHOLDER NAME" which was also about developers trying to make decisions about features vs polish in a tight game jam. It's lovely to see this idea taken on once again as it's such a fun fourth-wall break.

Gameplay wise it was hard, but I was thankful for the fairly frequent checkpoints. You could learn from the Mario school of platforming and add a  few extra frames after leaving the edge of a platform in order to jump,  I found myself falling of due to failed jumps many times and having to do a jump then move which is fairly unintuitive. However I really loved the variety of this game, and you absolutely nailed the different ideas!

Mapping R to restart level was delightfully devilish 😂😅 and I found myself constantly restarting the level while instinctively trying to reload. For any other game jam I would be so mad but for this jam I completely understand.

Thanks so much for taking part and   making this! I really enjoyed the experience, and had a lot of fun!

Thank you SO MUCH. This was my first ever 3d game. Thank you for mentioning the story! It is very much a parody of "Spec Ops: The Line", and although the game is clearly a joke, there is sort of a "message" behind it. Ah yes! Coyote Jumping! That didn't even cross my mind. I did the "it's easy for me, so it's gonna be easy for everyone else" so yeah. I knew that checkpoints are a crucial part of game jams, even the simplest of jam games I made NEEDED checkpoints, and here they were essential. Variety was something that needed to happen in the story, and I felt that  if it was just an FPS the whole game, that it would be quite boring. Mapping R to restart was more of a debug  thing and a fail safe that if the player were to fall trough the map or go out of bounds (which is only possible in level 3 I think) they can just reload instead of quiting out of the entire game. Thank you for playing! I really apreciate your comments!

This is so bad. I might have to disqualify you

This is all your fault!

Nice touch with the voiceovers and 2.5D art. Changing the genre from FPS to platformer was so random! Loved playing it, was actually enjoying shooting all the soldiers down. Unfortunately, I gave up after reaching the platformer since I wasn't gauging my jumps too well.

Was the fact that you couldn't see certain platforms anymore if you chose to jump into a lower box an intentional "bad design" choice? Enjoyed the game, thanks for making it!

Developer(+1)

aww that sucks. I get really carried away with the difficulty. Any bad design that happened along the way was unintentional. This was my first ever 3d game so I got lazy with the platformer part. I somewhat focused more on the story. Hell, the last level (level 5) is full on meta lol.

Thank you for playing! Sorry for the difficulty spike, as the later levels are the main "show" of the game in my opinion.

I really enjoyed the 1st level! I'm normally not an FPS gamer, so that's definitely a compliment.
The story also seemed quite fun, felt like I was sitting in a room full of dudes talking. xD

Curious to see what else happens in the next levels, maybe if you guys have the time, upload a short video of what happens next?
I am not sure I'll be able to beat level 2! :'(

I realesed v 1.2 which makes the platforms on level 2 more thicker, which should  make them easier to jump on. But I could aswell upload a playtrough some tim.e
