When I first saw screencaps of this game, I had no idea it was built in pico-8. You picked such a unique palette and art style, that your game really stands out! There are so many loving little details here. I love the player naming conventions, and how the wastelands become provinces and sanctuaries. There are a lot of takes on the theme where dying leaves behind a corpse or obstacle, but this is such a fresh look at that idea! It feels like my predecessors are leaving behind power-ups and shaping the world in their image. Very cool.

Love the look and the concept of death affecting the player's next attempt in ways other than the obvious. The enemies got pretty difficult to deal with after a couple of deaths. I noticed you mentioned that spawning more of them is a possible outcome of dying, which might make things feel more out of balance than they really are. Great effort, worth revisiting!

Wow, I love this concept! It always felt fun to revisit a particular area and see a previous run’s life modifying the level layout. I can’t wait to see the finished version!
