This is a great concept! I loved the quick crank to scythe xDD
Find the main character art great , fx sound feel good in the game and Great visual transition between screen !
Great first entry for your first playjam !
Itās very clear what must be done, and feels like a polished experience, with crisp visuals. Using the crank as a scythe feels satisfying. (Fumbling on the buttons a bit less ā¦ Iād recommend switching out the āAā key for ād-pad upā maybe?)
While itās good fun, I kept wanting the next level to bring in some new mechanics (or at least visuals). But a focus on the basics is as expected for jam-games.
Very well done for a first effort. I havenāt touched pulp yet, but you seem to have had a good experience with it.
thanks!! this was all lua though
Really fun horde game, with an interesting twist to keep you on your toes. Sound design is great, that audio system you used worked a charm, although some background music would've been nice also. Also, I noticed in the later waves the humans stack on top of each other which means you kill them too easily- although I was playing in the sim so it's likely I had an unfair advantage haha.
Art is also great, and I love to see people use Noble Engine. Congrats on the first game, it's a banger!
Congratulations on making your first game, you should be really proud! Love the grim reaper take on the theme (of course!) and the dual concern of the gameplay.
Overall I found this to be a nice little arcade game. I found the concept pretty nice and I like how you really were forced to switch between the scythe and making sure none of the ghosts escaped with the control scheme you used. I also like how it took considerable effort (full turn of the crank) to slice at humans, it made the gameplay more strategic. I also found the punching sounds to be pretty funny.
Suggestions and critiques
- I felt that it was a little difficult to understand when a ghost could be ābase droppedā (destroyed with sound). I also didnāt think multiple ghosts could be destroyed but found if they overlapped enough they could
- It would be nice to have more enemy varieties. Possibly one that rushed death, slower and faster moving ghosts. Maybe even an enemy that would approach death and run away and you could get extra points getting them. Maybe even having an enemy that youād want to avoid killing because āit isnāt their time yetā.
Overall great little arcade game and great work!
This was an interesting entry! It made an interesting use of the crank in that it's awkward to switch between cranking and button pressing. I realize it's the point, but this did make the game a bit difficult to play physically and I wasn't sure how to hold the console. I would have liked to see what wave I got to on the end screen as well, as looking down at the bottom during the game isn't always ideal.
This is really great! This is a pretty fun complete little high score chaser as it is. Well done. I would encourage fleshing it out into a full release after the jam. I did find my hand started to cramp up a bit. I think the awkwardness of A is required for the game to work, but it is awkward.
Fun arcadey action! I made it to wave 15 on my first try. Very clever mechanic to force the player to choose how to manage their "victims". By making both ways to defeat enemies use the same hand I found myself sweating. I realized my souls were escaping while I was scything the mortals. Very fun and creative use of the prompt! š
