  • Love everything about this entry, the only thing its missing is some music! Definitely one of the contenders here. Would love to see more levels, and abilities. really a standout submission
  • Extremely charming game with a clever interpretation of the theme. Adding the planned upgrading features and new/different levels to play through would be perfect for a fully featured game to release on platforms like Steam!

Did you include your Game Design Document in your downloadable files?
Yes

Tell us about your game!
Spread paint (and as a consequence, panic) all over the world that has never seen color before! Paint on buildings, cars, animals, and even people! (They hate that.) As you paint you will encounter increasing resistance, survive to paint everything!

Did you remember to include your Game Design Document?
Yes

Is your game set to Public so we can see it?
Yes

I really liked the art style of the game. The character controller was nice and responsive and moving around the level was very fun. I liked all the achievements and the stats that were presented at the end of the level, a very nice touch. Maybe some NPCs can come in to try to clean up all the mess to reduce the panic they’re experiencing. Overall, I think your idea was very nicely executed.

I'm thinking of adding a fire truck as a boss, thanks for playing!

This game has a lot of really polished features and a unique art style. The character controller is zippy and easy to control. The game has a bit too much rapid button pressing for my liking which can be a pain on my hand. As well, I think the game needs to be tweaked a bit to be more engaging. Still though, this is a very impressive showing! Great job.

Developer

Thanks for the comment, I agree with you, I want to add more things, I think adding the powers and store will help, but there are a lot of things I need to add to levels themselves to make them more interactive.

Very nice game !
The painting felt "clonky" at times where I couldn't get a character painted even after multiple tries
Game gets hard very quickly but it's still very well done ! Good job :)

Developer

thanks for playing! Yea I dont know why but the layering messes up, i coded it to paint the top most object but it still doesnt sometimes and im not sure why, wish I knew

A very fun and well implemented concept! It got a bit hard at the end, but I find it really funny and likable! Nice work!

Developer

thank you so much for playing!

Fun game! I like the art style, it also reminded me of GTA wanted system haha.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for playing! Yea, I noticed that while I was working on it

Haha. Art has never been so violent! I love it. I must paint all the birds!

Developer

people who hate color deserve it

It's all fun and games until Panic Level 3! such a fun and silly game. something really satisfying about it. Really loved the achievements, and can tell you had a lot of ideas for expanding on this based on the Lexicon.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! I wanted to implement a lot of things but ran out of time, I got the health upgrade working (and when I expand it you only start with one heart) but I disabled it for the demo, have a lot more to put in it

Yeah it was definitely a short amount of time to try to get so much in the game in time, but awesome, i'll keep an eye out for updates!

I really like the disconnect between the lighhearted goal (paint stuff) and the panic with which the NPCs react. Makes me wonder if there is a Meet the Pyro situation going on.

Developer

yea the joke of the game is you're not really doing any harm to anyone, the violence of the game comes from the reaction to your actions, kind of a 'we fear what we do not understand' kind of thing

So, the rain becoming paint is unrelated?

Developer

As the world becomes colorful it just starts to happen, didn't really think about it, just thought it was a cool effect to change the rain

Pretty fun, I like the moving truck and painting the seagulls way more than is healthy.

Developer

yea, painting the birds is hilarious

Achievements are a cool touch! I think this would be a great submission with some explanation of the controls and player goals.

Developer

thanks for the feedback, i forgot to put the controls in the itch page, they're there now

Submitted

Hey, a couple of logistical notes. I couldn't figure out how to paint, or that other controls besides move existed until I looked at the design doc, so it may be helpful to add them to the itch page, or better in the game itself. Also, the design document is a .doc file (while I believe is an old format). I had to import it with google docs to read it, so just not very user friendly. I think .pdf or .docx would be better.

For the game itself, I think it's a cute concept, though I'd like some more incentive for the player to paint things, like maybe getting new brushes, colors, etc., to make the mechanic a bit more interesting. Also the screams were funny at first, but get a bit old after a couple. I think it might be better to have more ambient chatter/chaotic background sounds that increase with panic. Overall, very cool and original idea!

Developer

thanks for playing! I've added the controls to the itch page as you've suggested, thank you. I agree about the ambient sounds, I couldnt think of what music would fit so I didnt know what to make. The original plan was to spend upgrade points on the random hats that are currently in the game, but I ran out of time
