Description
The game I had in mind would have been called "A Journey to Remember" the phrase itself immediately gave me vibes of classic RPGs and such why I took inspiration from those, as well as chiptune music in general!

---------- THE MUSIC ----------

1. Telling Stories:
This piece would serve as an intro cinematic, as well as serving as a reprise at the end of the game. It would reveal to the player more about who they would be playing as, and then later at the end of the game as the hero's actions and experience culminates as they come to terms with and decide who they are.

2. Long Road:
This piece is a simple loop, supposed to serve as a more laid back and relaxed setting from the rest of the game, perhaps what would play in an inn or bar.

3. Sacred Grove:
This piece would play in a specific setting in the game, an ancient grove and temple, now almost completely reclaimed by nature. Within the player would find a strange air of calmness with minor hints at something more mysterious happening behind the scenes.

4. Turnabout:
This piece is a dynamic one, ideally in a game the first half would loop until a certain point in a scene is reached wherein it would transition to the second half of the piece. In this song, it feels as though a piece of heavy news is revealed to the player and the hero, however, after some moments of reflection and understanding a new feeling of hope is instilled into the hero as they continue to press on.

5. Deliberation:
This piece is supposed to convey feelings of mystery and unease. As a loop, this could be used in a moment to reveal to the player and hero who they truly were before they lost their memory, making them question whether their quest to rediscover themselves was truly worth it and whether they really can be the hero they believe themselves to be.

6. Hero's Respite:
This piece approaches more calming feelings. To give the players a moment of piece and understanding. This could be used in a moment in the game that reassures the player and the hero that their quest is indeed worth it, and that one shouldn't be judged by their past decisions but rather by how they've grown and what they've becomes.

( Composer's note: I would relisten to "Telling Stories" at the end as well as the beginning of the soundtrack to get a more complete feeling towards the experience! )

Message from the artist:
Overall, I am fairly happy with what I was able to produce in this week for this OST Jam. Especially considering this my first Jam!

To be quite honest, I have been experiencing a rather harsh creator's block and so I didn't make as much as I wished I had.
(During a good week I could have made double the amount of music at least)

However, with that in mind I am still satisfied with the result and confident in my work!

Theme

a journey to remember.

How does it fit the theme?
The game I had in mind would have been called "A Journey to Remember" the phrase itself immediately gave me vibes of classic RPGs however, I wanted to differentiate a little from this as well by using the title as a double meaning.

The game would be a classic RPG but the plot would follow our hero who's lost their memory entirely, and the game would cover their rediscovery of who they are and any other complications that may arise from that, will they return to their old life or continue on as the new version of them they've discovered throughout their journey? The hero's journey is both a journey to remember in that it will be an unforgettable journey of discovery and growth, as well as a literal journey to remember who they were.

very nice. really like the variety of songs, all nicely having just enough to make them feel like they belong together.

I definitely understand the creator's block comment- I was going through it myself before I found this jam! Great sounds throughout- definitely fit the classic RPG thing you're going for! Definitely a good foundation here!

I really liked your palate of sounds!! I feel you on the creator's block – I was grappling with the same when I submitted my own track, but you obviously pulled through and made something delightful! "Hero's Respite" and "Sacred Grove" are absolutely charming, and "Long Road" is a total jam.  Did you do the art, too?? Really lovely project.

This has some promising parts and I'm happy to hear you got over a creative block with this. I have two main comments, the first one is that I listened on your soundcloud playlist so  I wouldn't have to download, and the tracks are in a different order than you've listed in your description. So I listened to them in the playlist order before realizing this, and then went back and listened to them in your intended order. I think it was a better experience the second time, so I would suggest going back into your soundcloud playlist and putting the tracks back into their proper order.

My second comment echos Yazorius's. Your strongest tracks were the ones where you were able to develop the material a bit. But some of these are just really repetitive loops. I think they would benefit a lot from some more melodic material layered on top. That's just my two cents though. Turnabout was very strong, and Sacred Grove had good vibes. Telling Stories makes a good beginning and end. Hero's Respite was also very effective. I think you just needed a bit more time for the others.

A very solid piece of work with Sacred Grove being my favourite.

Cute music :) I like the synth sounds. It has one disadvantage- it's a bit monotonous, for example "Long Road".  My favourite track is Hero's Respite! Cool melodies :)

Beautiful.

I like how organized you've been with your project, it really pays off making the listener understand perfectly what you ment with the songs. Sometimes the tracks are a bit repetitive and sometimes the mixing could've been done better - like the musical clashing between reverb and new notes and the noisiness of certain synths that muddles the synth's tonal structure.

Regardless, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Great work.

Lots of loops in this OST, sometimes a little short in the first three tracks, which deserve a little development (especially "Long Road", too repetitive), or to have been presented in their basic loop of a few seconds. On the other hand, the last three titles are distinguished by their qualities, and should probably have been enough to constitute an OST without weakness: Sacred Grove (for its successful hypnotic atmosphere), Telling Stories (expressive, with colors à la Badalamenti), and Turnabout (and its excellent second part). Considering only these three works, we have what constitutes an excellent immersion in a classic RPG reserving a fascinating adventure. The work on these 3 pieces is meticulous, and allows to appreciate a thematic and instrumental development which shows the capacities of the composer to keep the listener in suspense.

The keys in Sacred Grove really had me! and then when the pad comes in it creates such a fantastic atmosphere. It's absolutely my favorite track in this OST! Great Work! <3

I like the way that in Turnabout you take away the beat for a moment before the last part where things become there most complex. It gives it a good sense of impact. Your instruments are fitting but I also just like them. Nice work !
