"Gaze of the Djinn" is the song i will be submitting to this jam, a product of which i made after streaming almost 7 hours, and like, 2 hours the next day to perfect it. Though I'm aware it's far from perfect, i really tried to challenge myself with the palindrome theme.
Now when i heard palindrome, i thought of mirrors. But then i thought, nah i feel like that's too general. So i tried to broaden my thinking, and i thought reflection. Where can you see reflections usually? Water, where can we find water? Lake, ocean, river, and then it hit me, oasis. Personally I'm entranced with world music. Since I'm majoring in music, there was also a course on world music. It just so happens that the one that sticked to me the most in that class was middle eastern music.
I did some further research before making the song itself, and i decided that i want the song to be about fighting a boss, and the boss would be, you guessed it, a Djinn. The Djinn, as i understand it, can take the form of anything, or at least in some stories, they're depicted that way. So, for convenience sake, i decided, yeah this Djinn is powerful.
I would love to just ramble on more about how i made the song and whatnot but that'll ruin the immersion of the song, so enjoy yourselves and the song <3
Also, points to you if you can spot what the palindromes and time changes are.
Difficulty
Make a piece that has the same musical notes both forwards and backwards but doesn’t have to be an identical recording.

Lots of pops in the dynamics here. Some parts where the mixing could have been much better, but otherwise it's a super fantastic track.
I really loved the guitar in this! That was amazing! Great job!
Solid track! such a roller coaster to listen to all the instruments pop but it was so nice how they transitioned so smoothly into each other and never really felt abrupt or unnatural. was like listening to a live band riffing off each other. some strong “King Crimson/Mars Volta” Vibes in the runs that I really liked. A really unique take and song , I really liked it!
This would play during a movie in a desert bar that escalates into a bar fight.
Very cool style and the piece is really fun too! I enjoy hearing more unique styles in these entries!
The latter half of the song was really funky with all the reversed audio and the water sounds at the end were a nice touch for the story you gave!
Great Job!
Absolute insane choice to play everything by hand. The electric guitar was my favorite. It's amazing how much you were able to do in such little time. Absolute props.
Well done! You definitely have great instrumental skills. I think it's a real plus and makes your composition stand out. Also love your harmonic progressions btw. :)
I must commend the time and effort you have put into this. It's amazing that in such a short amount of time, such an elaborate structure and some real instruments, like your guitar, are played in. Very well done!
Thank you so much!! If i could i would've added a bass solo as well, since I'm mainly a bassist, but i didn't want to make the song too long and i wanted the structure to still maintain the palindrome theme so i decided to scrap that idea.
The best thing I've heard so far. I have to ask, did you play any of those instruments live? Was it a midi keyboard? I'm so enthralled by this song and my curiosity has peaked. I really hope you win this.
Thank you!!! Almost all of the midi sequence i used were played live, then manually fixed the rhythm. The parts that didn't use a midi keyboard was because i got so mad that the recording keeps stopping because my audio interface is broken :') Other instruments i played live were the bass and guitar. I streamed it live if you're curious to see my thought process, but be warned, it's mostly just me complaining that the recording keeps stopping halfway haha.
