The title of the original song(s)
"Boss", "Tubelectric", "Jazz Boss Tune 1" from Jazz Jackrabbit 1 & 2

Is this a cover, tribute, or medley?

Cover
Tribute
Medley

Description
The genre of the original soundtracks is funk/electronic music, which were then covered into rock/metal variants.

In order to cover them, we have tried to follow each instrument line and adapt it to guitar or bass, with the exception of drums which were still drums afterwards. We tried to follow the originals as close as possible when it was doable. In order to do all this, we have used Cubase.

Overall, we've learned a bit more about how to record and master tracks, and how to get a certain sound for different instruments.

Really getting some Dynasty Warriors 4 vibes from the "Boss Tune 1" with that guitar tone, that's some great work on that track - favourite of the bunch. Found the bass a little lacking on the "Boss" tune but great job overall.

Sounds good, I noticed you listed just some guitars and a Focusrite (same one I used for my submission) for your gear, does that mean you were using DI guitar/bass with plugins?

Yup. In terms of what exactly we used, we got

  • Fortin NTS for distortion on both guitar and bass
  • Krush for the fuzzy bass line from the Boss track
  • Pitchproof for shifting the pitches of all guitar and bass tracks 1 semitone down on Tubelectric
  • Graillon 2 for adding a slight fifth to the Jazz Boss Tune 1 rhythm guitar, just to cut some corners and not record that line again a fifth higher
  • whatever Cubase had to offer for reverb, delay, flanger, and sometimes noise gate

Cool! I have just been using free plugins from Ignite + free version of Amplitube for my guitars/bass, so I'm always interested to see what other people are using.

Developer

Never heard of them, but we'll check them out. You got a really nice tone there.

We could have used it during the jam. Initially, we were using the free trial version of Fortin NTS, but it expired in the middle of the jam, so my friend said "fuck it" and just bought the license. xD

The covers are really well done. The guitar sounds so good! Great work!

I was so surprised to see Jazz Jackrabbit. Thanks for covering this game :D
I really like this style for these songs. This oldskool rock feel mixed with these tracks is a great match.  Especially on Tubelectric, which was my favorite of the three. Great job!

Very cool tone on the guitar for all of the tracks, seems to fit really well!

Really enjoyed Tubelectric and the echoed guitar, nice done!

That was really cool! I feel like it may be easy to overlook it but great use of the different drum patterns/rhythms to set the tone for your different tracks.

My favorite one is Tubelectric, I love the filtering effects and how groovy it sounds!

Developer

Thank you! The drum patterns are actually the same ones from the originals.

Nice covers! Tubelectric is my favourite

Nice heavy atmosphere!

The first track here is really exciting, captures the energy really well. Tubelectric has a really fun atmosphere that I found myself getting lost in, very good use of filtering and layering. Boss sets a good stage, just like the first track, and really feels like it'd be the backdrop to a challenging fight. Solid work!
