Description
The soundworld of the track is floaty and light. I composed this track for an imaginary game where you explore a fantasy world by solving jigsaw puzzles of varying difficulty. This track would be playing throughout the world exploration. When I composed this track, I first found a rhythmic groove that I liked and used that as a base for this piece. I then went back and forth between writing the melody, finding harmonies that complemented the sound, and adding in percussion. I used Dorico to compose the music and sounds from NotePerformer. I then put the audio into Ableton to add in automation.

Theme

Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
When I saw the picture, that's when I decided to lean more into fantasy rather than solving puzzles in the "real world." I like the idea that you come across a dragon that needs your help finding a treasure, and the only way you can do that is by figuring out a series of puzzles.

Great composition ! The composition and instrumentation of your track remind me a lot of Another Code/Trace Memory (I like the soundtracks of these games a lot, so always a good thing to be reminded of them), which is also really fitting considering the exploration/puzzle game approach you went with. Nice job !

Thank you! I've never played Another Code, so I'll have to check it out!

I agree with the last two comments. I could definitely spend hours in a game where this was the music and not get tired. So good!

Developer

Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed listening to it! :D

This is such a unique entry! It really captured the vibe of a slow going puzzler and that is really cool!

Developer

Thanks! It took me a while to figure out a good pace so I’m glad it came across in the track :)

You nailed the puzzle solver aesthetic in a way that's hard to explain lol, it kinda reminds me of the ruins soundtrack from Undertale. I also really love how this never feels repetitive, and how there's always a new idea being introduced somewhere.

It does remind me of the Ruins track from Undertale a little. There’s also a piece called Solitude by Herbie Hancock that I listened to afterward and the beginning eighth notes sound extremely similar to that. Thank you for listening! :)
