Description
This is a soundtrack for an imaginary game, which might be called "In the world". Based on the theme of "In My world", the game represents a shut-in who never leaves his house, doing very little. It is all recorded live on a Eurorack modular synthesizer, with little editing. Much of the compositional work is directed towards the sound design rather than traditional musical elements, to leave space for the game to be the foreground, while being disruptive enough to warrant listening in its own right. The dark rumble, the leitmotif, represents the inner guilt and shame of the main character. As the music follows the main character's emotions, it ends with comfortable, tepid stagnance. The final sound represents that the "good ending" is simply putting off the inevitable. Recorded and edited in Ableton Live.

Genre: Ambient/Electronic

Theme

Inside my world

How does it fit the theme?
The game takes place "inside someone's world" i.e. their room, apartment and comfort zone. By not leaving their apartment/comfort zone, they are inhibiting their ability to lead a healthy life, instead opting for a comfortable, stagnant life undercut by a strong sense of guilt and shame.

You're the second submission that I have found in the jam that has done its work with a modular synthesizer.

You definitely did a very interesting exploration. I really enjoyed the abstract journey you took us on. Thank you very much for sharing your music!!

AMAZING WORK!!!!

Took off to a different direction compared to what I had in mind looking at the cover initially. It's something I can relate to, the sound design and the emptiness evoked my feelings during the COVID isolation sometimes haha. Not the most musical of the bunch but certainly one that tells a strong story and creates an immersive atmosphere. After listening, the cover took on a whole different meaning for me.

Very unique entry I will say! Definitely not for me but I can respect it!

WOW WOW WOW HOLY YES. I absolutely adore the approach you took to this, I love how creatively you used these modular synths, because the electric nature of the atmosphere you created was so goddamn exciting, even with the ambient nature of this. My only note is I know you didn't do much editing on this, but I would recommend keeping an eye out on the EQ because in the first few songs especially the high ends got really squeaky and while they didnt distract from the overall experience it is something that you should still watch out for, and try and add a bit of high end cutoff to mitigate it if you ever notice it. (ive also been told apparently izotope's free version of ozone may help with this on its own? not confident) But overall this genuinely was one of my favourite entries so far, excellent work.

Wow, that's an incredibly unique take ! The sound design is absolutly amazing.

YES YES YES YES This might just be one of if not my favorite entries in this jam I don't know how I didn't listen to this sooner. Your take on the theme and composition is so unique and right up my alley. The whole eerie vibe, bizarre modular sound design, the reverb, just everything, I love this so much! Ugh this makes me want to get into modular but I think my wallet would kill me.

Super cool stuff dude, amazing entry!

Thank you so much, especially as yours is definitely my favourite so far as well! Modular is a bit expensive to get into but you really don't need many modules to get a unique and performative sound. Thanks for listening!

One of the most unique submissions I've heard. The mood is super present and the work being live is amazing!

Great submission!

Thank you very much!

Interesting take, I do not share all the artistic choices you've made but listening to your submissions helped me think about some questions on sounddesign and the extent of what music can be!

Really unique submission! I love that you gave a lot of space and silence, it really helps set the mood. I really like how the 2 Panic tracks are so simple yet so effective at depicting panic. That final piece especially stood out to me, as it has the perfect mix of peaceful parts and stressful parts with that ominous drone weaving in and out.

I love this! It's such an expressive soundscape - so calm yet really unsettling at the same time. You can really feel that underlying sense of stress amongst the calmness of it, particularly in the final piece, the shame and stress creeping into the comfort and safety of their apartment. Brilliant soundtrack!

Feels kinda Yume Nikki like in its unsettling calmness (except Worry). I liked it

Submitted

Thats a pretty nice soundscape, I think Worry is the most stressful thing on this album it hits even harder than panic 1 and 2 !

Developer

Thanks! I'm glad the sense of stress came through.

I got silent hill vibes from this, good work dude.

Thanks!

It’s difficult to be creative with such little going on, yet these tracks have managed to stand out amongst themselves. I can definitely see this playing in a dark, mental-health centered game!
