Description
These tracks have been written excusively for this jam. I've used Cubase to write three orchestral pieces mixed with synthezisers. The soundtracks are hybrid atmospheric orchestral pieces.

Havet og Marah
The song is the main title screen for the game and fits also both Themes “inside my world” and the one of the submitted picture. I chose the synthesisers to resemble the vastness of the sea and the unknown things in the deep while the orchestra resembles Marah.

Rolig sjødans
Which is Norwegian for “calm sea dance”. The song is supposed to be the main music if Marah ventures thou the overworld on her little boat and shows the little and big waves she will cross over her time. It is mostly written for orchestra since Marah will be clearly in the focus.

Det skremmer meg - FLYKTE
Also Norwegian for „It scares me - flee“. This is a song companioning Marah, when she tries to flee from a dark sea creature which resembles one of her fears or one of her illnesses. I chose a mostly synthesised sound to resemble the scarry and unnatural site of the monster and also revisit the mixed idea of the main theme Have og Marah.

Message from the artist
I am an beginning composer and have currently no furthor works in OSTs for games or other media. I do my compositions as a hobby besideds my full time job as a Programmer.

While i am not norwegian i have learned the language over some years and visited the country many times and had my fondest memorys there. Thats why every song title is in norwegian.

Theme

Inside my world
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
I chose an atmospheric orchestral hybrid soundtrack for the fictional game “Havet og Marah” (which is Norwegian for “The sea and Marah”). The Game is about a little girl called Marah, who ventures through the great sea of her emotions and memories. It discovers her emotional findings and also her psychic disabillities. I chose this idea, since it fits the theme “inside my world” clearly and can also fit the submitted pictures as a scene from the game.

This is one of the better compositions and mixes ive heard! Seriously impressed by this work. The crescendo work is amazing and your knowledge of orchestral arrangements shines through big time. It nails the description of emotions and memories. The emotional depth of this OST is undeniable. Great work!

Moin!

First of all thanks a lot for rating my submission, it means a lot.

As for the OST, I like orchetral music a lot, so this was a blast  to listen to. I loved how you could hear the music going from very calm to quite tense over the 3 Tracks. I also really liked the implementation of the sea and the implications with it in the different Tracks.

My favourite Track would probably be Det skremmer meg - FLYKTE, just because I love the combination ofd the screamy like sfx with the epic timpanis and the cinematic wind instruments/trumpets.

Overall it was very nice, keep it up! :D

Definitely has a cinematic feel in the first track. Also, there is a lot of variation throughout each track. Loved the orchestration. Excellently accomplished!

Incredible ambiance in the first track! Really well arranged, I love where you take the ostinato in the piano, handing it over to the strings then chimes. Beautiful motif in the second track! I’m a big fan of the epic finale - what a great way to close out the soundtrack! Well done!

Really good submission. Loved the arrangments of every track. My favorite is track 1. Keep up the good work!

High quality and distinct!

I liked the last track the best because of the cool percussion.

Even though it only has three tracks, each song is really something special, and portrays an atmosphere better than the wide majority of the soundtracks I’ve listened to so far(including my own)! It really conveys an amazing world and journey through the music alone. All in all, amazing OST, and I can’t wait to see/hear what you make next!

To be honest, I didn't expect such positive words for my work at all. I am stunned and also thrilled you liked it. I will make shure you won't be disappointed :)

Very, very atmospheric, really enjoyed it. I especially like that first track, the title track - I could hear bits of the Blade Runner score in there which I love. Really pretty strings-writing in the second track too, very lush and melodic - I think I can hear a flute doubling the violins which makes me wonder why I never do that! Gorgeous, thankyou!

Thank you so much comment. It really means something.

You're pretty much bang on with the Blade Runner comparison. I've used mostly throughout this hole projekt an emulation of an CS 80, which also was heavily used by Vangelis for Blade Runner.

This is absolutely laden with atmosphere.

Kicking off with Havet Og Marah, I love the lead that intermittently comes in and out from the intro; makes me envision something bobbing on the surface of the water, occasionally dipping below but bouncing right back up and treading further. The orchestral bed below is arranged really well and feels glued together properly. Nothing out of place or glaringly identifiable - all layered nice and tight so that it creates a sea of ambience. As the piece progresses, it gets a little busier but still  remains evocative.

Rolig Sjøendans feels a little more like a typical orchestrated arrangement. A definitive swing to it with some nice airy melodies swinging in the spaces between. If the last track had tightly packed layers, this has slightly looser ones and it feels more appropriate - I think this one in particular shows off your individual orchestration chops a little more.

Ending with Det Skremmer Meg and the tone change here is noticeable, but wholly welcome. Much more menacing, progressive and larger than life. Think this is a great one to finish on, and it does a great job of showing some versatility.

Great work!

I am very much humbled by your kind words and am very thankful for this detailed critique. It very much gives me determination to see what's up ahead.

Happy to share my thoughts, you did a fantastic job and I too am looking forward to seeing what you come up with next. But before all that, best of luck in the competition! :)

Love me some good orchestral music! lots of good build up and voicings! Favorite track is Havet Og Marah. I just love the way it builds up its like straight out of a movie! Great work!

Okay here are the negatives: mixing / mastering need to get another pass (I have the same problem, but even worse result than you).

Positives: Everything! This is jam packed with beautiful ideas stringed together perfectly, I'm absolutely impressed!

Developer(+1)

First of all thank you for your kind words and also your critic.

To be honest, I kind of get where you coming. The mix seem to have some odd graininess and lost some sharpness. Also having been a bit heavy handed with wow and flutter of some cassette emulation. I think I should defenetly do so and revisit this afterwards.

You created some lovely music, with very clearmovements and very nice use of instrumentation and orchestration. Congrats!

This soundtrack has strong orchestration and melodies. Your choices of instruments were well thought out and executed (especially the winds!). But I really enjoyed Havet og Marah and the way it kept building until the end. Great submission!

Havet Og Marah is beautiful, I love the slow build up and the crescendo. Chef's kiss.

Rolig,  I think I'm ready to adventure.

You nailed the scary, ocean, "I must leave now" vibe with Det Skremmer

Amazing job all around!

great ambiences, especially on the second track! I like the way you mix acoustic instruments with synths :D

Submitted(+1)

I listened to it twice :)

delicious melodies, great harmonies, you put it all together perfectly!!

Such a great job!

-Havet Og Marah: I really like the sensivity of this track and how the instrumentation builds, also plus the high strings in the backround panning one side to the other adds a great feeling of deep and unknow things. Fits really well for my as a main title theme.

-Rolig Sjøendans: that 3/4 definitely fits the feel of the sea and waves, really nice options of instruments on the different sections

-Det Skremmer Meg - FLYKTE: definitelly scary and tense movement, nice build, very tense and dark!

Nice job, great experience!

That title screen definitely has that Scandinavian indie music vibe! I love it. The orchestral track was good as well. My only feedback on that is the strings still sounded synthy, which is hard to really clean up with such a time crunch, so it's not really affecting my voting, particularly because the only reason it stood out slightly is because of how well mixed everything else is.

The last track sounds like it would go very well to Simon Stålenhag artwork. You could just make a montage of his art and put this track to it. It's very cool, and it the fact that it captures that kind of ethereal sci-fi vibe also makes it very appropriate for the competition's theme. This track was my favorite for sure.

Great work. Very strong entry, one of the strongest I've encountered in any of these competitions.

Developer(+1)

It is very true, that this project needs some furthor pollish. Especialy the strings, since they aren't my strongsuite. Thou I'm thankfull you didn't mind and liked it nether the less.

I had to look up Simon Stålenhag, since I didn't know him yet. Very stunning artwork. Glad you've mentioned him. Definitely something to get inspired by.

Love the build-up in each piece! Can easily tell this OST is dedicated to exploration and a vast world ahead of them.

Favorite part was 1:30 of Rolig Sjøendans, the melody is bouncy and encapsulates your vision very well.
