Description
This short score belongs to an RPG featuring sentient toy cats made of various materials, ranging from plush to porcelain, metal to wax. They were created by an artificer to bring joy to the children of the village, but unfortunately... He's kind of not alive anymore. And the cats do not know this! Our main character, Dandi, sets off on a quest to find him and meets Icarus (or Russ, for short) and Tsugi on his journey.

The trio encounters both friends and foes as they make their way through the workshop, and all things considered, things are going pretty well until they come across the Unkindness: A group of crows that's particularly interested in stealing the toy cats (especially shiny ones) and taking them to their nest. Icarus gets kidnapped by one, causing the remaining party members to venture into the outside world for the first time in order to save him.

We used Dorico (Resident // Cryptid) & Musescore (Angelica) to compose and I (Resident // Cryptid) used Logic to produce the tracks. I think we have a pretty fun variety of things: a character theme, two area themes, and an "event" theme.

Message from the artist
Angelica & I are super excited about this! We had some technical difficulties along the way but are happy with the four tracks we did manage to finish. :)

Theme

Inside my world

How does it fit the theme?
We chose to write our music based on the theme "Inside My World", having the cats start off inside their own little world, the workshop. You could also see it as this being inside the artificer's world.

Well, uh. I finally got to one of the greatest soundtracks of this jam..... KITTENS

Tsugi's Theme - So... meow synth, cute and intriguing flute, sounds of mechanical toys in my left ear... Am I being prepped for something interesting?

Groovin' with the Alley Cats - CROWN Cats (Why do I feel like this track is perfect for a cat mafia showdown?)

Icarus the Candle Cat Wants to Fly - Kittens. I HEAR CUTE KITTENS

The Nest of the Unkindness - So... the cat mafia seems to have hit my mark..... but how?

Overall - this is an excellent soundtrack that had a lot of kittens. I enjoyed it and...

I can tell you had a ton of fun with this project! Really good composition and orchestration. The production is great, just watch out for mixing stuff like reverb - I suggest sending everything to a reverb bus so they all sound like they are in the same room, and not too much! The Nest of the Unkindness might be my favorite - love the contrast between the fat bass synths, the marimba clusters, and upper melodic lines. This was a fun and well-crafted soundtrack that had me smiling throughout!

I like the choice of instrument as lead (that mimic the "meow"). Well done doing this rich and childish soundtrack!

i love how playful and mysterious this OST is! despite maintaining certain ideas and loops through certain tracks, you manage to introduce variation that avoids repetition. i like your use of synths that resemble meows - you've put a lot of thought into this OST and it shows down to even your instrumentation. by far my favorite is "Groovin' with the Alley Cats," probably because that style of music is literally right up my alley. (...pun unintended oops)

this was an INCREDIBLE listen!!!! great work!

The music sounds so cute, playful, laid-back, and joyful, it feels like I'm watching an animated cartoon with kittens as the main characters. It's really adorable. ~w~

gorgeous orchestration

I really liked the clicking percussion! To me that represented the toy cats winding part like they have a big gear on their back that has to be wound for them to function.

I also listened to this with a cat sitting on my lap so that was thematically appropriate (:

make this game right meow sir!!!! one of the most creative concepts i've seen for the jam. i love the idea of meow-ifying all the synths. the whole vibe reminds me of like a little ps2/gamecube platformer lol, this was awesome

meowsynth jazz was something I never thought I needed to hear

I love the fact that the main leitmotif you decided to use is the entire meowsynth vst, its so funny but it fits to your game so well, amazing soundtrack

Overall Rating: ( :3 / 10 )

The story idea is really original, I like it! The music is well executed and exactly what you’d expect to find in a game like this. It could easily be a published game. The orchestrations are beautiful: there are platform game sounds mixed with jazz, orchestra, and synth elements. Truly an interesting project, great job! I wish you the best of luck in the contest.

Some of the melodies sound like the cats singing or something. That's the image i have lol I like a lot of the vocal qualities out of the synth sounds you're using. Melodically it's very strong!

I like the diverse genres you're using throughout all the tracks. They all feel uniquely different enough to feel like different locations. I think the concept you have about two area themes and an event theme comes across very well.

Overall very good! Enjoyed listening to this and liked that it was very lighthearted. Works well for a "Cat Game!"

Ahh, Meowsynth! I myself am an enjoyer of those archaic VSTS´s that have developed a kind of memetic reputation, though it is admittedly DelayLlama that is my weapon of choice.

For such a primitive and limited VST, you manage to wring ecvery little bit of variation out of it, yet also knowing when something else needs to be used. The OSt has a lot of character and cats make everything better.

I love the meowsynth lol. Really nice work on this entry! I think you nailed it. My favorite track was Groovin' with the Alley Cats, because I was on a different tab listening to it and was thinking to myself that it sounded like a bunch of leather coat-wearing, slicked back hair-having, switch blade-wielding cool cats from the alley, and you had that vibe spot on lol.

Great job you two!
