My submission's pretty short at only 3 tracks, but I enjoyed what I made in the allotted time!
I essentially went for a 16-bit style of soundtrack, with bossa nova being my main inspiration for the genre.
I used FL Studio to make this, since I have no idea how to use OpenMPT, haha!!! (I know how to use FamiTracker, so I might make something 8-bit next time.)

I imagined the game would be a laid back, low-poly, first-person exploration game. I was basically thinking that it would be humorous, so, not something to take super seriously. The character design I used in the multiple covers is sort of an inside-joke thing, so you could see the type of tone I'm going for here.

As for the "game," and what the songs represent, it's pretty simple, really. I didn't think about it that much!
"theme for the last ruminations of the dying moon," is the first song. I thought of it being the theme for the city you start in, where there are many characters to speak to, and of course, some backstory on how the moon that you live on is somehow suffering or dying... somehow. Yes, this is a sci-fi, but like a cartoony sci-fi, where you could breathe in space like that Treasure Planet movie.

The second song, "sailboat gameplay," is what I imagined you would listen to if you were to get on your boat and sail out into space. It's where I imagined where the main part of the game would be. You would explore and try to find a star to wish upon to save the moon.

The last song, "wishing star," is not so much a song for when you find the star, but rather for the aftermath when everything's fine and hunky-dory and everyone's cheering and clapping and singing kumbaya and the moon isn't gonna explode or something. Cheesy happy credits theme. The end!

Message from the artist:
This is the second time I submitted something to an OST Composing Jam! I joined the third jam from last year, so I felt like I was a little more informed as to what I wanted to do this time — BUT IT WAS ALL FOR NAUGHT because I BARELY had enough time to even make something at all! (I was very busy) I almost quit because I didn't feel like I had enough to submit, ain't that crazy?

I just barely pushed out 3 songs, which I think is OKAY — but, in comparison, my last submission had 11 tracks and won 3rd place overall, so I felt like I had a high bar to clear this time. In the end though, I'm pretty content with what I made. I had fun doing it, and I think I was more accurate in trying to sound like 16-bit. (For context, I was inspired by 16-bit music last time, but in retrospective I ended up making stuff that was like... not really... 16-bit. I mean of course it wasn't REAL 16-bit because I used FL Studio, but it hardly even counts as stylistically 16-bit at all!!)

Theme:

Wish upon a star
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
I mainly tried connecting to both themes by making the game about a sci-fi. I was tempted to involve Christmas somehow since it's Christmas today! But I decided not to, mainly just focusing on the literal star and moon. The game takes place on the moon, sets out into space, (on a sailboat,) and finds a wishing star or something! (I didn't plan the game out that much hehe)

Oh man, this is 👏🌟
The synths are top notch, I love that classic sound you got going on there. Every track was a BOP
ugh
These were so good
I wish I could figure out more words to say, but great GREAT work, I'm a fan. Your composition style is absolutely fantastic

This was really good!  I especially like your unique take on the theme - most people went for epic adventures, so having a calm, happy-go-lucky sound makes this submission really stand out.  Your compositions here are super smooth and appealing, and all the various soundfont instrument choices create such a great, chill, summers day vibe.  Very great soundtrack that somehow makes me feel both upbeat and relaxed at the same time.  good work!

I really love the main line the melody has on the very first track! Groovy and talking so much ^^ It conveys the not serious approach very well! I think the sounds you used help in this way. Second song gives this same light-hearted feeling while being more playful with that funny sound. Great for sailing in space! Then the last one so funky and yet smooth at the same time! It is joyful with the melody kind of singing thank you for the adventure. And those synths in harmony at the end are so good!

Amazing job overall, and the main force of this ost is its strong identity in my opinion, it is an important point for memorable games! Congrats and thank you for sharing this so cool work :)

Theme for the Last Ruminations of the Dying Moon: This is a very unique track with really creative harmonies that I think has a space-like feel and could certainly accompany a lively hometown on the moon. I think your re-creation of 16-bit sound is quite accurate! Way to go!

Sailboat Gameplay: I like imagining sailing out into space with the ambience of waves and a bossa nova style track playing - it certainly hits that humorous feel you were going for. The main instrument also has a funny alien-like quality to it too that works well with this track for this specific gameplay scenario you envisioned.

Wishing Star: I really like when the funky guitar part comes in after about a half a minute. This ending track feels so happy and content - I only wish I could have heard more of the story leading up to this. Thank you for sharing what you were able to finish - you absolutely were not the only one with time constraints, but I think you did great with the time you did have!

Star sailor: what an awesome vamp in that 5/4 metric. I love the chords, too and how melodic it is. Very unusual!

Sailboat gameplay: Bossa rhythm and that quirky Meow synth are a killer combo, haha!

Wishing star: Yet another awesome rhythm, this time the funky bass line, then that organ solo in the end is glorious.

Almost through with all submissions and this one is one of my favorites, truly unique take on the theme! Thanks for sharing and see you next time!

Love the jazzy bossa nova feel, so far you're the only one to do this, and it very much still fits to the theme, well done!

Loving the SNES soundtrack vibes here! Very authentic-sounding, very catchy. If you told me these came from a classic Japanese game from the 90s, I would totally believe it! Great entry.

I wouldn't define these as chiptune, personally, since chiptune is based on simple wave sounds and noise, and here you're using actual instrument samples and no square, triangle or saw, for example. But labels are ever changing and chiptune isn't exactly defined anyway, so you do you! In this case I think 16-bit music is fine (as in, music that sounds like it came from a SNES or a Genesis), or "tracker-style" music, even if you're not actually using a tracker.

Best wishes!

Oh waw I really wasn't expecting that! Bossa nova is actually one of my favorite type of music and you definitely made it justice, this absolutely slaps! The groove is silky smooth and the melodies are super catchy. Chiptune bosa is absolutely genius, great job!!

The bop levels are off the charts. Easily my favorite soundtrack I've rated so far.
