This one was a fun romp, a bit surreal, a bit humorous and a pretty good flow that get you in the rhythm and keep you there.
I wished my poor clothing had got me more cash begging than my nice suit: what's wrong with the tourists in this joint! x)

i thought it would be funny that looking nicer would get you more money, but its also the effect of not being able to implement something in time. I wanted to have it so that if you begged enough you would get arrested, and if you wore nicer clothes the police would be more likely to show up (higher risk, higher reward begging). But I didn't write it in time, and we were focused on just getting the core stuff done.
Apparently, i am an aggressive nudist…. What can i say? Clothes are too constraining and i love my FRRRRRRRREEEEEDDDOOOOOMMM!
I think i managed to get all endings, in order: police, sad, angry, happy, and clever. Did i miss any?
After the way Poem reacted to the, um, poem, i kind of hopped that giving the letter to Pray would make him think i was trying to flirt with him or something; i was disappointed it wasn’t like that, somehow.
The art surely seem simple, but, man, it was very effective and looks so nice. How do you do that? When i try to do art like that it always ends up looking like a heap of manure. i guess it shows who knows what they are doing and who does not….
In any case, very good work.
Man, Poem is pretty easy and I feel like a jerk lol I got the sad ending and am sad now. Fun game, fun characters, funny game. I like how the merchant sells things, but not to you. First thing I did when I got to the carnival was beg for money 20+ times, surprisingly effective. Pleasant art style and nice light hearted feeling to the whole thing.
I hit a bug when talking to Poem. I had told her I was doing bad and got an error when I tried asking her to tell me about herself. Here's the short version:
While running game code:
File "game/script.rpy", line 778, in script
po"{cps=30}My name is {color="#F4D0E5"}Poem{/color}, I'm Pray’s daughter.{/cps}"
Exception: Open text tag at end of string '{cps=30}My name is {color='.
Yeah, we caught that syntax bug 10 mins after release, but cannot change any files! Poem's been having some brain farts lately (something about quotation marks and bad thoughts, not a big deal). We are gonna push a 'Carnival Unending But Good' version after the voting period, with everything ironed out and cleaned up. Glad you enjoyed the game, and mayhaps try some different endings? As a treat? A treat for you? A little snack for a hungry hungry boy? Hehehe?
It was a very interesting game! I have to admit it took longer than I would like to admit to actually not just go between people and just ask them random question until something clicked --' But once it did, it really came together and I started enjoying myself!
Great job!
This is so fun! I love the dialogue. Puck was my favorite and Pale was so sassy! haha. Well done!
The story is simple yet compelling, I found myself chasing after the various endings! I think using the Venice carnival to play with overwrough tropes and twist them by having the characters react in unpredictable ways is a great idea.
The art is also very enjoyable, I especially liked the jester's character.
I think something went wrong though, in that I had no audio (playing on Linux/ubuntu, can give more details if you want to look into it)
This game had an awesome setting and atmosphere, which the stylistic visuals and changing audio really added to! I love the fact that there are multiple endings - I don't think I managed to get the best ending, but I played through a couple times to explore the different options. :) I enjoyed the comedy weaved throughout as well. (My favourite line was about the play sounding like a trainwreck, so naturally you wanted to see it as soon as possible!)
A really solid game jam entry! Best of luck!
