The concept of the game is really well done, some things could be explained a tiny bit better and I think there is a bug somehow causing a pawn to become a king or something idk, but other than that it's good :)

Developer

Well, the point about explaining things is definitely right ;P

When you capture a piece, you swap places with it and take control of it. This might be what you're talking about.
There's also (spoilers!) a mechanic based on a lesser-known rule in actual chess where a pawn will change if it makes it to the end of the board.

(I suck at chess and im already stuck early on.), but I like the overall concept of this game!

I have some small suggestions:

1. Make it clear it is the king you need to send into the door.  I didn't realize that for a moment and I thought I just send someone to the door.

2. Make a text to tell people 'R' is can always be pressed. It takes quite some time for me to realize that I can R other than dying. (Oh... it's written in stage 3... maybe earlier?)

Overall a cool game to me!

Developer

I kinda wanted to include some sort of explanation of the pieces' movement but I decided to skip it since I was on the clock. Might add something of the sort after the jam's over.

I enjoyed it! I would have liked a "undo this move button" but a cool idea. I liked the chess movement as base.

Actually, you can press 'z' to undo! Its buried in the description but the game also tells you a few levels in

Cool game but i cant retry for some reason

Developer

weird - what happens when you press 'R'? I had some issues with retrying but I should have patched that out. (If you're using the touch controls you just have to undo repeatedly)
