I don't understand the goal of the game. I am killing enemies but get no score. What am I supposed to be doing?

How is your game related to the Theme and Special Object?
The game is automatically lost if you stop moving. The special object is the player's main tool.

In order to get points you need to hit the enemies while having picked up the matching color. Once you have picked a color you can go to one of the two palettes and press E to mix two different colors.
Simple colors (yellow, red & blue) give 10 points, while mixed colors (green, orange, purple) give 100 points.
There is also a "how to play" within the controls screen in the options menu. A little too hidden, I guess :(
Cutscene at the beginning was awesome, and I loved the gameplay mechanics. Great work!
The pixel art here is really beautiful, the various random paintings are a small and nice touch! The intro and music set up a very funny atmosphere. Controls are sharp and the colour mixing is a really good implementation of the special object! As is, it's a little aimless - but it's easy to imagine it keeping you on your toes with some small tweaks. Keep it up!
Great game, lovely graphics and DAMN kids with icecream !
Played with controller on web which worked like a charm. The biggest issue was the lack of knowing what to do. I was sure you forgot to add a points scoring mechanic as I kept getting +0 and mixing the paint didn't seem to do anything either. It wasn't until I hit a purple guy while I had purple paint and I scored points that I started to understand the game. After that I finally managed to score some points.
The game should either ramp up in difficulty or have a set goal in order to have a clean ending. Now the only way it ends is to have a kid get to your painting AND not get killed while it does it's 8 second countdown which is more time than you need to get back from the top to the painting so you will most likely never lose.
Didn't feel the theme much in there but the special object was shining bright !
Great job on the whole thing!
PS: I think it's intentional, but the buttons feel cut off on the right. I thought there was a fullscreen issue but it's also showing up when not full screen and nothing of the text is chopped off so my guess it's intentional but looks off. Could just be me also :P
Thank you for the criticism. I agree with everything you said. I already have a to do list that will address all of these issues. Hoping to be able to work on it in the next few days.
I would be very happy if you check it out again once i've updated it!
Regarding the PS: Which buttons are you referring to? The MainMenu buttons are intentionally cut off. Perhaps it's a problem with the web version. I developed/tested the game for desktop, where it should scale everything according to your window size. I only quickly punched together a web version without any thought put into it. Hopefully i can optimize that a bit as well.
My PS was regarding the menu buttons (Start / Settings / Exit)
They are rounded buttons but the right part looks cut off. I expected them to be fully rounded buttons.
But most likely this is by design and just something I was not expecting. I think what pushed me into thinking they are cut off is that the buttons in the in game menu ARE fully rounded buttons.
I added a screenshot for clarity:
omg seems like I'm hacking kids to death.... kids holding icecreams and the slightly eerie bgm is complimenting the horror loool.... took a while to figure out the color mix and scoring system (some rare mix gave a 100 points i think), got to 1170 but got repetitive due to random drops. Since you had that nice funny intro, could've made an outro too...for when you reach a set number of points or something. Overall nice implementation of the special object. A good colorful kid-slashing experience!!!!
Thank you for your feedback! :D That's right, the mixed colors (green, orange and purple) base points without combo give 100 points. There was definitely an outro planned, but we worked up to the deadline, so some elements could not be implemented unfortunately! But we will fix the randomness in the future to make everything a bit more manageable and plannable.
We also really had fun making this game :D
Really fun game about beating kids down with a brush!
It can get a bit repetitive since not dying is fairly easy, but trying to get lots of points fast is really fun! The mixing mechanic makes the game hectic and the game looks very pretty.
Very funny plot twist with children :D
I couldnt really shoot in the game, but really cool idea and great graphics, i like it!
Really nice! very polished, funny story, and everything a good jam game needs. Also the art is so impressive considering the time span
