Use of the limitation
Aside from obvious hidden-object nature of the game, I included optional hidden secrets on the game that you unlock from playing it long enough and paying attention to the background. And these secrets are not limited to power-ups...

Great work!

Cute visuals. Addicting game play. Cool song. Good UI. Cool power ups. Only issues is some times correct cloud take too much time do appear. Game could give more points when we hit multiple clouds simultaneously (including the correct one of course!

Like this game a lot! Keep working!

It's fairly simple but pretty fun, and the power ups all seem to have a situation where they're useful. I made it to 165 in normal and 41 in hard mode. The highscore is a bit broken though, the menu shows the normal highscore as the hard mode highscore, and the hard mode score doesn't reset so the highscore isn't correct.

I'm not really a fan of how the power-ups menu scrolls, and it seems a bit too sensitive to me. I would have preferred just a regular scroll bar. Some of the power-ups' explanation text is cut off at the end as well, though "Don't Wanna Do It" and "The Cloud Hater" text overflows they're boxes, and the ones that aren't cut off have a quotation mark at the end but not the beginning for some reason. I also think there might be a typo in the "Red Cloud" description, since it says "the rest is will" when I think it's meant to say "the rest will".

Additionally, I noticed that you can still click on the clouds after you lose, which continues increasing your score, and since the clouds don't disappear either you could potentially do this for infinite score given the right circumstances. Also, when I lost with the "Lightning" power up active it remained active for my next run.

Aside from these fairly minor things though, the game is very solid and well polished, and I quite enjoyed it.

Developer

Thank you very much for you kind words and feedback! Most of these should now be fixed, check it out!

For some reason, I'm unable to remove the quotation mark at the end. As for the power-ups menu scroll, it will be fixed in the post-jam update, coming soon! Stay tuned for that, it will include new challenges, secrets, power-ups, feedback fixes, and stuff with the Polaroid photo thingy.

charming! it lowkey stressed me out and i find that pretty compelling for a little arcade game like this XD the powerups were hilarious, i wasn't even mad when one made me lose the game haha, i really enjoyed the variety they brought to what could have been a too-repetitive concept. very impressive to deliver this in under 24 hours!

Really nice use of the limitation and was fun, wondering how you came up with the music, it's very interesting and fitting for background music. Also, compared to the rest of the game, the Explanation part is quite ominous with the lack of music and crooked and repeating text, I don't know if you meant for it to be like that. Great job!

Developer

Thank you! The explanation part is supposed to be like that, I'll use the Polaroid thing for some future lore, stay tuned for that! Also, if you're wondering, I made the music in Google Song Maker, I normally just play whatever and it comes out good.

Unique concept, for some reason I kept struggling with finding the triangle lol I like the E to hide the UI thats much needed! Great work doing this mostly by yourself!

Developer

Thanks! Also, what triangle?

Submitted

One of the clouds represents somewhat of a triangle shape.

Developer

do you by chance mean this one?

Submitted

No its a filled shape with curvy sides but resembles a triangle. I am pretty sure I got it at least once

Developer (1 edit)

Then do you mean the Paramount? That's what I call it.

A simple, but very fun game! I really enjoyed playing it, and the power ups made the gameplay loop feel frash and fun. I think your interpretation of the limitation is very unique, I love how you used the limitation as an advantage for the game! And the music was fun, too. However, I personally quickly started to feel overwhelmed by the amount of clouds formed. I think the game would benefit for a slower, more gradual approach; perhaps at first there will only be a few clouds, and after a few minutes you start to get more and more clouds. Well done!

Developer

Thank you very much for your kind words! I'll playtest the game with your suggestion, and will see if it gets better. Make sure to check when I publish the upcoming post-jam update, that will come with new gameplay additions!

Submitted

I'll definetally check! Looking forward to see the update!

Developer

Hint: There's not just secrets with power-ups.

Submitted

I definitely enjoyed this game. Very simple yet very fun and difficult!

Cute and enjoyable.  I experienced the issue others have mentioned where required shapes sometimes don't appear, but I thought the hidden bonuses were a clever touch.

Submitted(+2)

This game is simple but gets surprisingly challenging, which keeps it fun. The hidden bonuses are a great touch! A larger game window and clearer goals would make it even better. Also, making sure required shapes always appear would help. Great job!

Developer

Thank you very much! I will add a larger game window in the upcoming post-jam update, so tune in for that! But what do you mean by clearer goals?

Submitted

I haven't played this game for long (because im horrible at it lol) but from what secrets I can see it looks like a lot of effort was put into it! One thing though is that I wish the cloud in the image could only show a shape that was already on screen because I played a round where it was a w and I didn't see a single w spawn the entire time...

Still this is really good!

Developer

Yeah, sometimes the game picks a cloud that isn't there. I'll add some more stuff onto the game after the jam, fog that blocks clouds, cloud spawner power-up, etc. There's also lore that is to come. I'd advise y'all tune in!

Submitted

Well executed idea! Wish the difficulty scaled a bit more other than sometimes waiting for a certain cloud to appear

Developer

I like your suggestion! I'll add a difficulty spike! Also, pay attention, there's more secrets than just power-ups.

Submitted

Interesting idea, I liked it. The task of finding the required shape looks easy at first, but it gets harder as you go. Also, different bonuses as secrets is a good idea.

What I'd like to suggest for improvement - please increase the size of the game window. Because it's very small and makes playing difficult :( Also maybe you can add some levels or win condition, because endless finding is a bit boring.

Overall it's a good game! I also appreciate if you play and rate mine.

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much! As of now, I don't have any plans to update The Cloud Watcher - perhaps I DO increase the windows size. I will not add levels, the game is intended as an arcade-esque game; adding levels allows for less replayability, and the game already has a linear path with the secrets. I will make sure to playtest your project, it looks very promising.
