What a great idea! It neatly solves the problem of tedious backtracking. The cool new mechanics just keep on coming, and then there's the night section! I had a whole lot of fun but my clickin' finger got tired and I had to take a break, would love to come back and finish it. As IronPowerTGA said, might be better for touchscreens, a lot of tapping is easier than a lot of clicking. And like Gearless said, dragging to cover a lot of ground, even if only the basic 1U grow, might really help, maybe only pan if dragging where there's no planting possible.
I noticed I could charge the orange meter just by toggling fans, might not be intended.
Edit: It looks like I was already almost at the end. Great work, thanks!
Really cool concept! The powers were super non-conventional to go along with the playstyle and as a result the puzzles were quite interesting and different from the standard platformer.
Suggestion to solve the excessive clicking needed (I don't know if this will actually help but it might be worth a try), what if you could click and drag in the direction you wanted to go? That way you could cut out the need to click 3 separate times to cover a simple 3 block wide gap, while not hindering any of the puzzling
Such cool idea! I played this game with a smile on my face. Despite the excessive amount of clicking, I really liked this one. Played to the end, yearning for more puzzles. Kudos!
Man, makin' me look practically basic as heck
Very original game! It still feels very tech-demo-ish, but if you were to round this out into a fully-fledged game I think it could do well.
To start off, I'm genuinely impressed by your spin on the genre and I honestly think that a creative twist like this is very much welcome in this theme, breathing new (plant) life into it. I didn't expect myself to get this invested and addicted so fast but it was such a relaxing and quirky game. Love the nature theme and the mechanics are amusingly logical and fun, complimented by the soothing soundtrack.
I have one suggestion though. The sprites of reddishbrown roots in marsh color ground are kind of hard to see. I love the colorschemes of both zones but in the first one I'd consider at least a bit darker ground at the root level and beneath just for that reason
It's amazing how much content you managed to put in a game jam project while remaining fresh and interesting to the end of this demo. It was honestly a lovely experience and I'd love to see your next works.
Well done and cheers!
This is such a unique take on the challenge!
I'll echo most of the other comments to say that it is chill, creative, and pretty, but it is a LOT of clicking. There were a some nice, clever puzzles, and again like have others have said, it seems like there's a lot that could be done with the idea. I also agree mobile would be a great platform for a game like this.
Great job!
I really love this idea!! The mechanics of planting make for some interesting puzzle design, and it was satisfying to eventually build around the entire map. I feel that a lot can be done with these mechanics.
My advice would be that since the player spends a majority of their time placing plants, make the act of planting more enjoyable. It got tiresome to keep click-click-clicking.
Thanks for the feedback ! I also feel like the clicking gets annoying after a while, I tried several ideas but I'm unhappy with the solutions I came out with so I'll update the game after the jam if I find a solution
Very good game idea, i don’t it’s a metroidvania but this is a master piece for me. Make a mobile version it will work. Lovely grass animation and very interesting powerup
I have a strange bug, all the screen is red.
I love the second zone with enemy who try to it us.
Content de voir un autre Français.
I'm so glad you enjoyed the game !
I'm a little bit scared about the bug though, I have never seen it during testing, I hope it's not game breaking and that I will be able to fix it at some point.
Ah oui en effet, enchanté !
The bug diseapear when i pass the game in fullscreen. So no problem.
I really like this chill take on a metroidvania! I think it’s a new sub-genre I’ll call “chillvania”! It’s got the gated progression and amazingly even backtracking! I love the puzzles along the way. They’re clever and well paced.
You could just keep this as is and it would do well as a mobile game. But adding some pizzazz to the art and lighting as well as more “juice” here and there, would make this stand out even more.
Our game isn’t chill with the enemies, lasers, etc. that we added. If you would be so kind, we’d love for you to play it, rate it, and most of all leave a comment telling us what you thought! Thanks!
I'm really glad you found the game chill ! I really think the game is more enjoyable if you take it slow, I often get frustrated when I try to play it fast.
If I work more on the game after the jam, I really hope I can improve the art, yes !
I look forward to playing your game ! It's so cool that there are so many different takes on metroidvanias !
