You sure succeeded in that field! It was really fun to control. Cheers :)

I'm stunned. What a curious and clever idea.

So THAT'S how tetris is REALLY played. I really feel the T-spins landing for me now.

I did nOT expect the jump to be THIS high.

But I absolutely enjoyed it anyway. I love the colorschemes and the black sprites on vibrant backgrounds. Looks really aesthetically pleasing, probably my favourite visuals this jam.

I wanted Winsor to ride a caterpillar so he did. Winsor got respawned inside a caterpillar. I enjoyed every second of it.

I love Winsor and I wish him the best. Please increase the screen size so Winsor doesn't jump onto the caterpillars until they're ridable.

Cheers and take care, Winsor, my beloved. Tell your creator I'm truly glad we met.

If that's a third of what you initially wanted to make you were actually planning to make a full game, weren't you? :D

I love the aesthetic, it's especially pretty in the fluorescent areas. Cool of you to add lil bonus animation

Real question, can I still join dad's fanclub? I love characters like him.

As the comments before said, really needs some direction and scattering abilities along the way instead of giving us all we can't hold at once and a sandbox I'm at the other end of before dad ends his lecture. I really like the way you implemented the dialogue box (not interrupting the gameplay) and it would make for a great intro if it was connected with more guided level design to accompany us figuring out the mechanics.

I like the artstyle a lot and it is a decent prototype with a fun idea at its core!

I want to bully more ghosts...

It really needs some contrast between the dark character and dark background yet the sudden switches to pink is really confusing.
I enjoyed the idea, though! It's always impressive to see something in Pico-8, so massive respect for that. I liked bats the most. Walljump feels really weird, having to press like 3 keys at once for it to work, maybe the rolling mode could be a toggle?

Well done on making it in time for the jam (I've read your commentary on the page), cheers!

That was really cute and enjoyable!

The sprites could be a bit bigger to show damage taken by enemies clearly and such. I liked the addition of bosses. The first one was great at checking out firing mechanics though the second didn't really bring anything new while he could have used the newly unlocked ability, but that's a gamejam entry so it didn't lose any stars from my vote with this and absolutely deserves a high spot in the ranking.

I had a lot of fun, especially since I haven't landed once after unlocking flying. I'm sure you can figure a fun way to use it in platforming or puzzles in future projects!

FINALLY a realistic housecat simmulator.

Mice could make some sound not to run catfirst into them in the dark but that's a nitpick.

A really heartwarming and lovely game. Well done!

I love ALL of the UI elements and appreciate the different sound pitch for landings. You've picked good way to introduce the story elements on-reports. The use of different colors in each area is great and I like the clean backgrounds.

It looks like the sprite could be bigger so traveling through the huge areas doesn't take too long but if the idea was to show the solitude in a wide space like this some more detailed backgrounds could make it look like an even more conscious decision.

The location of the first enemy right after getting the zappy skill feels like saying in level design language that it could be used on it - maybe to stun it? The range of the weapon is a bit unclear due to particle effect used for its attack visuals, seemed to ignore the wall when too close to it.

That's it for my nitpicks, overall good job and a really solid entry!

Adorable, clean, consistent.

I absolutely love the saving in form of the little burrow and the pickup sound is really satisfying.

Map could be a pause so the butterflies don't kill us while checking location.

The overall visuals are extremely adorable, especially the random moon npcs met along the way.

I've read other comments so I can only wish you best luck in finding the problem with collision next time.

Other than that - well done!

Oh I absolutely love the sound design, the minimalistic approach and the clever way you've fit in the shapeshifting theme.

My only problem was that this adorable jumping sound gets quite monotonous when repeated a lot during platforming. Maybe making it a bit quieter could help, not to lose the lovely background jazz along with it. Just a nitpick, honestly. Great job!

Thank you so much for all the kind words! <3
I'll make sure to consider clarity in the future attempts!
Cheers :)

Hey, thank you so much for all the advices!

That is indeed my plan to practice and learn - that aside from trying something new and having fun with it was my main reason for joining the jam :) I absolutely agree with your opinion on putting sound effects above music and I'll keep in mind all the points you've made.

Once again, thank you for the feedback and I wish you a lot of motivation and energy for new projects!

Thank you!

Thank you so much for the feedback!
I suppose I should find the courage to look for some sound artists to team up with in the future. I didn't want to take anyone's time for a little test project like this and I sure am happy I just managed to submit it. Like you said it's a lot for a game jams but means even more for me personally!
Best regards and I wish you a nice day :)

Oh I wouldn't make a single move in programming if it wasn't for all the great tutorials online :) I only hope to do stuff a bit better on every attempt and maybe one day - after even more tutorials - my physics might be just right.
Thank you for your time and the feedback!

Hi, thank you for the feedback! Glad the game worked in the end.

I'll keep in mind not to overdo slows in the future.
Thank you for the art tip! I'll remember that next time I do higher resolution sprites for the background or maybe just practice pixel backgrounds alone. I really should do it at some point in the future and advices like this will keep me motivated for it.

Cheers and thank you for your time!

To start off, I'm genuinely impressed by your spin on the genre and I honestly think that a creative twist like this is very much welcome in this theme, breathing new (plant) life into it. I didn't expect myself to get this invested and addicted so fast but it was such a relaxing and quirky game. Love the nature theme and the mechanics are amusingly logical and fun, complimented by the soothing soundtrack.
I have one suggestion though. The sprites of reddishbrown roots in marsh color ground are kind of hard to see. I love the colorschemes of both zones but in the first one I'd consider at least a bit darker ground at the root level and beneath just for that reason
It's amazing how much content you managed to put in a game jam project while remaining fresh and interesting to the end of this demo. It was honestly a lovely experience and I'd love to see your next works.

Well done and cheers!

Thank you so much for checking it out and feedback!

Good job on beating him! (he takes 3 hits from his own poison before he's washed off the screen)

To be honest, the camera zoom was a happy little accident while trying to find the right distance to show the player at - but you found the perfect word for why I felt like leaving it this way in the end. "Claustrophobic" zoom sure does go well with spiders in spooky places.

Thank you for this precise wording, I really appreciate it and I'm just so happy to read you enjoyed it :) Cheers!

Thanks once again for giving it another try! I'll definitely keep that in mind next time I think about mapping buttons like this. Cheers :)

Hello again, I've finally updated the final version for the jam if you're interested in comparing if movement is still as clunky.
I was thinking about your points about the visuals and I tried at least resizing and refitting the sprites into the scene a little, since I had no plans on making the backgrounds more detailed in remaining time. Now there are 2 main objects to interact with so I also added a little animation to make it clearer when they're activated.

Wish you a nice day and I really hope I cleared out your doubts about the art :)

Thank you so much for the praise and the feedback! :)

I've just updated the game in the final hours of the jam so if you're interested in comparing if the jumping is acceptable now it would be great to read your opinion.

I wish you a nice day and thanks for stepping in!

I literally made those sprites by myself during the jam time but guess I could consider it a compliment if you really think those sprites of mine are worth being in a pack. Ironically, that really helped my low self-esteem :)

I still have sketches and all if there was any need for me to prove it or you can even check my previous lil projects to see the consistency. Backgrounds and sprites are made with the same color palette I picked for this jam. The sprite size of an inexperienced pixelartist isn't a good reference point for hurtful accussations like this.

I'd like to know, though, how exactly did you "use" my "witch"?
Either way thanks for the feedback again.

Hey, thanks for the feedback! Could you specify what do you mean by "better" or what exactly is bothering you the most about the movement?
I haven't stolen anything and the singular easteregg placeholder jpg I named and referenced will be replaced before the jam time ends, if that's what you mean.

Hey, I don't have any offer but I just wanted to step in to say that I love your work and how fluid the animation feels - especially in little details and turns. I really appreciate and adore your style. Cheers mate!

i didn't wanna edit it after submitting so i thought i'll make it in time to save it that one last time! haha i didn't! counter ticked down to 0 as i was submitting the page :D

welp, rules are clear, i'm out! i don't even feel bad about it, had a lot of fun and i traded a bit of sleep for that last 5min, i'd say that's worth!

but if you want to give my project a try please have a look!

https://514.itch.io/514brackeygamejam6

it's my first gamejam entry and my first game attempt overall so i feel like it still belongs somewhere around here. i learned a lot during this gamejam and now i got my last fun lesson on "one last saves" and why not to try them!

if anyone reads this i'd like to take this opportunity to thank the whole community and give my best regards to all content creators around teaching programming from scratch!

cheers guys, have fun testing games and best luck!

Loved it! Pleasantly eye-catching, consistent aesthetic, well executed use of minigames and satisfying differences between playthroughs. Très bien! Très bien!
Best wishes for Dr Krueger.
