brooooo i LOVED this game.

I refreshed the browser page like 12 times bc i thought the game bugged, i did not wanted it to endo so soon lol.

Some things i think you should consider adding are:

-add infos of what each weapon update

-add a better options menu, where you can change the volume of music and the sfx it self. I personaly play those indie games while watching movies or series and the game music annoys me when it blends with the movie music and the voices.

-add some more items and power ups to the game

-i dont know if it was a feature that you planned, but when you exit a room, your hp gets full. it makes the game very easy and it makes the heath item uselles and annoying when you are farming coins and it drops hearts.

-Make weapon upgrades more impressing, maybe adding combos or different attacks, like a down + attack

-add a bow and maybe a shield to the game

Other than that i think the idea of the game is amazing and you did it very well. I hope to see some more updates on that and if you are making this game alone and want someona to test the game and provide you feedback, feel free to contact me!

Wow this is an incredibly beautiful game. The design is true 8-bit. Level designs, character designs, animations are all great. So much variety in things to see and the world feels expansive. The gameplay is quick and feels good. I appreciate how flexible the keyboard controls are for both left and right handed players. The dialog and transitions are slick. Very well done. You get all my stars!

The effort that clearly went into the graphics, polish and animations in particular are impressive considering it’s a game jam entry. To add a few potential improvements that weren’t already highlighted, I thought the sound effects were a bit weird. Music was good though. Also, some parts with spikes and lava can be cheesed if you have enough health, so maybe you should just warp the player at the beginning of the room if they fall in them. And finally, a map might be helpful since the game is pretty open / non-linear. Other than that, great entry !

I really enjoyed the impactful feel of the combat, and if you worked on the AI some more to take advantage of that, I am sure the combat will become a central pillar of this game! The aesthetic and sound design are also sharp

This was super good! The combat was snappy and the context-based dash on the initial strike was super satisfying. The air dash, always one of my favorites, was fun to use as well. Great sound design and aesthetic to the game as well, lots of variety in areas and I generally had an idea of where I was throughout the game despite not having a map. Most importantly, I had some of those "a-ha!" moments where I actually said out loud, "Oh, I'm back in THIS room." The difficulty curve was superb as well, there were moments I was actually tense about the prospect of death and hoping to either find a heart or a new save room. Finally, it was cool that you got some bosses into the game as well despite the time frame.

Here's some feedback/suggestions.

- The lava might as well be insta-kill since it slows your movement and decreases your jump height so much that you're basically boned if you fall into it.

- The air-dash is satisfying, but there were times that I didn't want to use it (such as attacking archers on narrow ledges) that it became a bit of a hindrance.

- The bosses, while cool, could use some tweaking. The first one doesn't attack and I never felt in danger from the falling objects, maybe just a simple projectile would suffice, and the second one gets a bit repetitive after awhile. Maybe its speed could gradually increases as it takes damage. Either way, they were still fun.

Very cool entry, I'm glad I gave it a shot!

A well designed game with the monthly challenge as a base. I would love to see where this game goes! The color pallete in the game shows that you are well versed in Japanese culture/history, and can make distinct connections to other points of japan (the turtel and bird bosses) i didnt manage to get past that point but if there was more i can tell that it is worth playing to the end. I recommend this game!

very, very nice game! Good story and how realized the monochrome topic is great! One of the best games in this jam I tested so far.
