The vehicle controls well! I also had difficulty perceiving depth - something like a fog (road /walls have darker pixels the farther away they are?) might have helped? But overall nice submission!!
The driving mechanics seem pretty good, but its very hard to make out the road and react properly. I usually get stuck or end up on the roof just because an obstacle wasn't visible in time.
It is obvious though that some effort was put into this, well done.
Maybe a different camera angle can help?
Very nice! The car handles nicely, though I wish I had a little more space to experience that handling on.
I'll echo what someone else mentioned: depth perception is a big problem here, and its a problem exacerbated by your level design. Running the player directly into a hairpin turn would be tricky even with access to where exactly the bounds of the road are.
The menu aesthetic was solid though, and I appreciate generally keeping the camera close to the action to keep the car legible on screen. I'd love something like a crazy taxi with this style of handling.
Car handling feels good, you even implemented gears and RPM! Having a hood camera is also useful (The game's page doesn't mention this tho, I discovered it by random chance. Pls update!). The default camera could be at a higher position tho, since the resolution is so low, the road ahead is super blurry. Having a higher point of view could help a lot. Great sound effects and music. Especially the menu theme.
Thanks! I've added the change camera key to the controls on the game page.
Nice to see so many racing games submitted for the jam!
For me this one suffers a but from the lack of depth perception, but that could be fully a personal issue, sometimes I just went off road because I didn’t see the edge coming.
Otherwise the game felt good, the map was varied enough and the looks were nice with all the mellow greens and yellows. Well done!
this entry is super fun, i got addicted to “optimizing” my runs and trying to find shortcuts :D the audio is also really polished, makes it really satisfying to drive around!
Nice to see another 3d car game in here. Looks like we opted for the same control scheme too- I was naturally handbraking with Space because it is not muscle memory for me. This was a good entry, I think the graphics of the level and the car really suited the resolution. And the physics felt great. I did feel a little hitching here and there with the web build. But overall, nice work.
It works surprisingly well within the 64x64 limitation! :)
Btw. is that a Volkswagen Golf Mk1?
The game looks like a really cool use of the 64 pixel limitation, but unfortunately it was super laggy for me, and I couldn't play it /: Congrats on finishing the jam though!
