Did you work in a team?
I ended up working on ECLIPSE by myself. It was a really fun experience! I got to experience sprite work, programming, and music composition all within just a few days!

Was the resolution a challenge?
Camera movement became very dizzying at this low resolution. Also, levels felt overwhelming when the player had to absorb the whole puzzle area at once. I approached these issues early on by making a camera that broke the screen down into digestible square chunks.

In general, the puzzle-platformer genre helped the game graphically in the jam setting. Since the game rarely relies on too much reflex, it didn't matter if sprites were larger and more detailed than the 64x64 resolution would typically allow.

What did you learn?
I went into the jam expecting to make some sort of adventure game. After sketching some concepts, about two days into the jam period, I realized many of my strongest ideas would suit a puzzle game better.

I've never tried to make a puzzle game of any sort. I gained a lot of experience with level design in the genre quickly! The 64x64 limitation pushed my creativity, as well, forcing levels to be smaller and plenty readable.

In addition, the two week time limit encouraged efficiency. I tried to do as much with as few elements as possible. What resulted wasn't a perfect game by a long shot, but a charming one.

A lot of nice mechanics in this one… block the rain, cook, bounce objects… the high jumps took me a bit to master. Very interesting entry, great job!

I'm glad you had some fun with it! Messing around with all the variety while still keeping jam limitations in mind was a good challenge!

Your entry is awesome, by the way. I saw some of your progress on the Discord. I haven't beaten it yet, but I love the more "realistic" platforming! It has a lot of charm!

Very peaceful entry indeed, great work!

Developer

Thank you! :) It was super fun to make!

Underrated entry! Love the peaceful mood in this game. Just wish I could use the arrow keys ;)

Developer

I am really glad to hear you liked it! Also, thank you for the feedback! I didn't realize how many people used the arrow keys. I'll make a note to include them in my next Jam entry :)

I had to come back and let you know that I found myself humming the hook of your theme song today. The melody apparently stuck with me after I played your game yesterday. So, great job on the music as well ;)

Developer

Haha, that makes me happy! I feel I am not as strong in music- so I always love to hear when someone enjoys one of my songs!

Incredibly cute premise that lends itself to massive charm in both gameplay AND aesthetics. Phenomenal looks and great music. The puzzles got pretty hard and I wasn't able to find the star in one of the later "Feed" levels (with 2 windmills and 3 clouds at the start: I DID manage to get a cooked apple to the plant though). Controls made sense (especially after learning that you could just press "up" to create motion rather than using the entire swing attack), although I would have appreciated the ability to use the arrow keys as well.

Developer

Thank you so much for your feedback! I was a bit weary on the difficulty of that particular level, but  I am super glad to hear you still enjoyed the game! Also, yeah. Pressing "up" is probably the most effective strategy :)

What a lovely entry! I'm really glad I tried your game because this is everything I like to play! Beautiful & cute vibes. I like it's story as well and puzzles are really well made. Took me just a few seconds on each levels to understand what to do. Also, the name of the level helps a lot guessing what you've to do. Well done! One of my favorite entry so far! <3

Developer

Thank you for the kind words! It was really fun experimenting with puzzles as I have rarely worked on games where that was necessary. I'm glad you liked it! :)

love the graphics. what a great palette choice for that dream-like aesthetic! got stuck on a few levels, but it was fun overall, and that cover art is especially adorable. well done!

Developer(+2)

Thank you! The palette is one I've had sitting on my computer for quite a while now. It was sampled from photographs of my Gameboy Color games :)

Thank you so much! I had a lot of fun with the simple little sprite work in this game.

Such a cute ending ^^ that level in the middle was really tough, where you need to cook 1 apple and then go back for a raw apple. I really enjoyed it :)

Thank you! I'm so glad to hear you liked it! :) Your game looks cool too, by the way. I'll be sure to try that one before the voting period ends!
