Did you work in a team?
2 Members!
Forte: Sound, Coding, some graphics
Saxorus: Netmon graphics
Was the resolution a challenge?
YES. Partially because I decided to try grid-based movement for the first time. But in the end, I had fun.
What did you learn?
All about data structures. Monster tamers are wayyyy more data intensive than I thought.

Wow this was fun! It felt really like a solid game! Awesome work :) Easy to get into if you played pokemon before.
Just a little thing: I got an error in a battle when I tried to switch in another mon. (selected an empty space and it crashed)
I am so impressed that you made such an expansive game in such a short amount of time. I didn't get much of a chance to explore this world, but it is amazing that it is as fleshed out as this.
Overall solid execution on the concept. I did have a hard time figuring out the controls at first, so I think it would be better if you could put them somewhere like on this website.
Thanks for the kind words! The controls are actually on the game page (not this one, which is the jam submission page).
I just want to say that I don’t play Pokemon style games personally, but I found this to be a very nice game. While the overland graphics were simple, for the most part, they do a wonderful job creating the cozy environment we’re exploring! The Mon graphics are are also very nice and fit the esthetic of the game wonderfully.
There are two things that stuck out to me, though…
First, it’s not very clear… or it wasn’t to me… that using the benches healed my Mon. The benches actually didn’t even occur to me as being interactable.
Second, the only item I can use during battles is Nets and I have no idea what they’re supposed to do. Every time I attempted to use them, they failed. Given the other items are unimplemented (an issues I’m totally familiar with in game jams :) ) there was never any incentive for me to ever use them, let alone spend any coin on them.
Again, I think this is a wonderfully done game, regardless of the small issues I mentioned. From what I do know of Pokemon style game, this game fits wonderfully within that genre!
A very solid entry! Music and sound was good, art was efficient, and information was communicated effectively. well done!
Had fun playing this! Graphics and music are both great, and as someone already mentioned, it feels very complete!
Wow you actually recreated pokemon! I was really surprised at how complete this felt!
The sense of humor is great. "Business business", "I wish those two would stop repeating themselves!" is hilarious!
The dialogue in general is perfect and classic pokemon. The characters have stories but also subtly guide you to where you need to go (i.e the girl who says "this internship is boring I should have worked across the street at the general store" teaches you where the general store is!).
It took me some time to find out I could catch netmon using nets (in retrospect, that feels kind of obvious haha), but I'm surprised by how much content there is in this game.
You did a great job with this!
Also I may or may not have killed mongrowl instead of catching him. After killing him I went back to the beginning and the woman said "bring him back safely" whoops haha!
edit: also I forgot to mention, the soundtrack is so good! Awesome job!
I'm glad you had a good time with it! And don't worry about Mongrowl, it's a boss battle so you actually can't catch it.
The girl is supposed to have updated dialogue along the lines of "Thanks for bringing back Mongrowl! I know he can cause quite the mess, but he really is a good boy", but I wrote the code to check that condition less than 10 minutes before the deadline so I didn't test to see if it worked. Whoops!
I like the music a lot :) cool Game!
