It is very meta, when you think about it: The more bugs and malware, the slower your machine becomes!

This is a fantastic entry!  I hope you two are proud of this and continue to work on it after the voting period.  I didn't get anywhere near level 5, but it was fun to cruise over the circuit boards.  Keep jammin'! :D

Developer

Thank you so much, Lance! We're doing our best!

i love the idea of the game.
i have reached level 5 of the game and the laptop was lagging because there were many enemies.
my suggestions :
differentiate the  enemies from background by changing the color palette .
you can add multiple weapons .
make a timer for old enemies so they destroy themselves after a long time to avoid performance issues.

Thank you very much for your detailed feedback, Adam! Very much appreciated And congratz to the score! The current record sits at level 7.

Game's good, but let me nitpick for a moment :D.

Would've loved a perk system to go with the levels, there isn't much point to advancing without it.

I'd also like the enemies to have a different colour palette to distinguish themselves from the background.

I'd balance game difficulty with something else than the sheer amount of enemies - without making additional assets, you could make fast enemies, small enemies, more resilient enemies, and so on. Performance problems could be avoided this way.

Congrats on making a complete game for the jam, and this one's a solid entry!

(Also loved the takeaways in your devlog!)

Developer

Thank you very much for your detailed feedback, Festus, we appreciate it a lot!

This is the first time we ever made a leveling system. It takes much more than we thought, so that's a good lesson. Thanks for the input!

Pretty cool and satisfying Survivor game. There's definitely a lot of slowdown when you do a good job of surviving though lol. Nice visuals and sound though!

Developer

Thanks for playing! I guess it's hard being the dominant malware :D

Very strong entry. I don't have anything to add that hasn't already been said.

I think you knew exactly what you wanted to make and made it, and anything missing was because of time constraints.

Lot of fun. Thanks!

Developer

Thank you so much! The time constraints of the jam really did hit us hard (or we are just beginner level in general), but we're actually planning on making a post-jam update. We've been given so much great feedback, we might learn even more on Malware Survivor.

Really fun game! The music is great and I love the simplicity of the movement mechanics. Could definitely play it again! ^.^

[Accidently closed the tab and now I have to write the same comment again...]

  1. Visuals are great. There are things to imporve (for example add sprites for the spheres around the player, maybe add hit animation both for an enemy and player), but still. The background is awesome (both in game and on itch page) - looks nice and tiles perfectly + the bugs/spiders/malware scared me at first (especially when there are a lot of them and they are moving towards you) <-- not sure if it was intended, but adds to the game feel
  2. Audio - music is great, but sound effects feel repetitive. (It's not a big deal, just the thing I've noticed). Changing the pitch of the sound a little every time you play ("AudioStreamPlayer.pitch_scale" property) might do the trick (and if neccessary you can also make multiple variations of the same sound)
  3. Gameplay. First 1-2 minutes I was like: "OH GOD! THERE IS SO MANY AND THEY'RE HUGE, RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN" and it's good. The only issue is that gameplay gets boring prettty fast: no new enemies, no upgrades (only level number goes up) and etc. Maybe this is due to jam's time constraints, idk

Overall - good submission (I like the idea of malware fighting each other on someone's computer, there's definitely space for expansion). Never give up, stay determined and keep learning :)

Thank you for the detailed feedback and advice, me and Alias (the coder) appreciate it a lot! The jam time constraints did hit us hard, but we're planning a post-jam update later righting some of the wrongs if we can :D Again, thank you very much!

I was watching the development of this Game from time to time and it was very cool to see all come together! this is a Solid Game as intendet a nice Base compared to that strange Vampire Game nobody knows about :D - Now to your Game, I played it, I died alot and I tink the art and everything fits very well together. The Bugs look creapy as hell and I  would also run away from them in RL so well done with those ^^ Some Kind of Upgrad system would have been cool but I know you had to focus on other things first!  Well done! Nice Game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks, Thetra. I learned so so much making this. The upgrade system could be a thing for a post-jam update, but I can't promise anything right now :D

I am impressed with the amount of animations made for this game! Especially given that, looking at your devlog, you are new to pixel art. The background is really cool too, with something moving behind the main sprite. It hasn't ever occurred to me to try something like that - I should put that into my next game.

Great job!

Developer

Thank you very much! Your game is one that I'll definitely keep playing. The gameplay is so fun.
