This was a fun puzzle concept that allowed for many solutions and much experimentation.
At first I thought it could be improved by showing the requirement for building everything before you unlock it. After playing further though, I am not so sure. There was a sense of accomplishment and fun to be had from the experimentation too. I think it's just a little too much trial and error at first, but maybe there's some way to reduce that without fully abandoning the experimentation process. Maybe if there were a couple more combinations that resulted from using the base tiles, there'd be less "errors" to the starting trials.
Either way, everything looks and works with polish. Great job!
Thanks for the feedback. In the beginning I wanted the progression to make sort of a "logical" sense. Like if you have wood, you can make a log cabin or something like that. But I quickly found I was limited by the Kenny Assets on hand for this particular game jam - and then I didn't have enough time to make something that previewed the materials needed. So I think if I was to take it further I'd consider both options. I appreciate you well thought out comment and for playing my game!
YESSS this game is awesome! I love a good city management game, and if its about effeciency sign me up. I think as others have elluded to was a challenge to work out what I needed to build, but also kind of enjoyed trying to guess which building may be needed for the next build. Finished it in 26 moves, interested to know what is the least amount of moves to get to space age! Really nice work, and thank you for making this wonderful game.
I'm glad you liked the game - as for the most optimal number of turns, it's difficult to say since the map randomizes at the start of every game. I do think having more green hexes to start is helpful, but in my play throughs any thing from low to mid 20 turns was pretty good. Thanks for the comment and I'm glad you enjoyed my game!
WOW! that game was wonderful! a simple idea, but I've never seen a game similar to this, very unique and with much potential! I would like to see what every building needed from the start, when hovering the mouse or something, but nonetheless, that was an amazing game. Congratulations!
Appreciate the comment! I agree with the feedback on the build system - just ran out of time but I guess that's the game jam life! After all the ratings are done I'm going to try and push a build with that in the game for the future - I think your idea of the hover makes the most sense from a UI perspective. Thanks for playing!
I see you also went the hexagonal route, you made a wise choice my friend ahah. It was pretty fun to play, loved the puzzle aspect and the UI was pretty cool, You can be proud of what you made 😄
Fun little puzzle to not use the wrong resources too soon. Though maybe having the ability to select things you can't build to see what they required after you had built them once would've been useful. Could have made the locked ones as just silhouettes or something if you wanted to keep the mystery!
Fun game. Took me a minute to figure out what I was doing but once I got the hang of it I was getting addicted. :) Like others commented, one thing I'd recommend changing is that white on yellow text in the UI. Other than that, beautiful work in 48 hours!
Fun idea! I actually was going to make something similar, but in a clicker game style, but scraped the idea and made a shooting game instead lol
The only feedback I have is it was tricky to figure out what I needed to make to progress because I couldn't see the recipes until I had the proper tiles. I enjoyed it a lot! Great work :)
Nice work! I enjoyed the concept but one thing that made it a bit frustrating for me was that I couldn't read the white text on the yellow buttons, so it took me awhile to figure out how to properly place buildings. I really liked the sound effects
I really liked the UI sound design, it was super satisfying to select and place tiles. Cool idea to grow a civilization by combining sets of materials.
