Controls sucked for me because I don’t have a mouse. Life has been very sad on Windows without one lol. No fault of your own of course. Despite that setback, I enjoyed this game! My guess is that the game was a play on “making people whole”. Was that right? I think that’s how the theme is used, but let me know if I’m overthinking it.
Won’t lie, when I first opened a door that wasn’t empty and Mateo popped out when I turned, I scream f@$% in my head lol. Wasn’t expecting that haha. This was cool. I don’t play much VNs but I like a good story. The story threads are understandably short, but that’s fine for a game jam. I read an earlier comment to know when it ended. Good stuff!
Oh no! I plan on continuing development, so I’ll see if I can shuffle some controls around to minimize mouse usage, but unfortunately, I don’t think I can completely get rid of it.
You totally nailed the idea of making people whole! Might have been a bit too metaphorical, seems like most people missed it, but I’m really happy that someone got it!
Don’t worry about the mouse, I’m ordering a new one haha. And no problem! It was a more out of box use of the theme, I really liked it!
The game quality is questionable... Lets just say "I missed the Connections"
I honestly found it really short, there wasnt really much of a game here, the play area is beautiful as well as the character sprites, this is where the good things about the game stop.
>There should be some sort of transition when knocking on doors
(I mean I went straight up, knocked and saw nothing, looked down, saw a child and that was probably scarier than any horror game I played)
>I don't know how the Scene Transition really works but I think it can be faster.
>The game finishes really quickly, theres really not much to go, you become a messenger, play hide and seek, and you give a student a book you immediately picked up
>Lastly the game complely missed the connection, I dont see how it ties into the theme
Basically you need to try again, maybe if you put a slight bit more time on brainstorming, you may have gotten a better game or a completely new game, maybe you had a concept but the main idea wasnt realised or implemented.
Thanks for the feedback! Unfortunately, I got very ill early in development and was unable to devote as much time to the project as I would have preferred, which impacted both the length and quality of the game - I had much more planned, and I really would have liked to polish it up a bit more to address some of the issues you had mentioned. I do plan on continuing development in my free time, so hopefully I can improve those issues!
What JePaCa Said . and also this was a lot to do in such a short time. I do not know what is was but the total silence and the door knock that freaked me out a little... lol
ik right
I just knocked
"Hello?"
*looks down and sees child
*heart attack
Just to note the two bugs I ran into playing: I play on an (admittedly unwise) ultrawide, which messed with the UI pretty seriously. Couldn't see the main menu properly, or the elevator buttons as the top and bottom got cut off. The other thing is there's some sort of lock when you get too close to doors, which stopped me from moving around afterward. Had to go through the door and back to regain control.
We had some issues with interacting with things. Not sure if it's distance to the doors/NPCs or if there's a deadzone for interacting with them, but some kind of pop-up, outline, or other indicator for when you can do things would help. Personally, I also found swapping between left-click/mouse a little awkward (I couldn't use Numpad Enter) since it meant I had to move one hand to a different spot. I'm also...not sure if I finished everything? There wasn't a final screen or anything, but I did seem to do everything for Amy, Emily, Mateo, and Jamie.
Now, the good stuff!
My final thought is while I enjoyed it, I'm not sure how the theme tied in to the gameplay.
Thanks so much for the feedback! I'm planning on continuing development, so this really helps! I'm glad you liked the characters! Yeah, I unfortunately didn't have time to add an end screen, but if everyone was in the lobby by the end, then you finished everything. I know the left click and enter was a little funky, I took a break mid development and didn't remember what I'd used previously, so the controls got weird. I'll clean that up going forward. You do have to be within range to interact with characters/objects, I'll add an effect to make that clearer! Thinks again!
Can you put a screenshot or alternative image for the game’s cover page? Makes it nicer when sharing later. Also, maybe add controls on the game page? Definitely add credits for any assets that you’ve used. Resurrecting my Windows machine to actually try it out lol.
Planning on doing all of that, just had a pretty hectic week! Will add all that tomorrow. All assets other than sound are my own
This week been hectic for all of us 😭. And that’s awesome regarding the assets, real game jam heroes here haha. Can’t wait to play it today!
I’m finally getting a chance to test the game, but I can’t install it with the desktop client
I think the issue is that the zip file contains a folder, which contains the .exe files. It should be that the zip file contains the exe files - no intermediary folders. I think. You can ask the other participants who have installable Windows builds to be sure. Being able to install via the desktop client would likely get your game more plays!
Hmmm that’s weird, I’ll look into it!
