How is your game related to the special object and theme?
The player must jump or run into green and blue candy canes to get a height or speed boost. If they don't, they won't get a lot of boost.

entertaining and short :), although i think i needed a coyote time (specially for the blue candy)

Developer(+1)

Hmm, coyote time? I've heard about it, but I've never implemented in my games before. I'll have to look into it some time in the future.

Thanks for the feedback!

Cool game! I like how the different candy canes had different purposes. Good job, I had a lot of fun! :D

I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Excellent visuals and platforming. I did not like the snappy feeling of falling after jumping. Overall, it was an excellent game.

Developer(+1)

Yeah, the way the game suddenly pulls the player down after they get the green candy cane is kinda awkward. It's something I haven't been able to fix while I was making the game. Thanks for the feedback!

I loved the pixel art and felt the gamefeel was really good. Great job!

i love the theme and the sounds, and i had a couple ideas where you could improve game feel.

it seems the game adds boost speed relative to the player's current momentum. this is most noticeable on green candy canes, where falling onto one gives you much less boost than jumping up into one. it may feel more reliable to zero out the player's momentum when they collide and then add the boost value to it. (you may have to tweak the values)

the blue candy canes work great if you're holding a direction but act very strange if you jump into them from neutral. you could probably change this the same way by zeroing the player's momentum on collide and then setting the player's speed to the boosted value you want, the rest of the boost control feels great.

big fan of your game and always excited to see another platformer, great job :)

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! I purposely made it so that if you were to fall onto the green candy canes, you won't get a lot of boost upwards. The same is true for the blue candy canes. You have to hold left or right while you run into them, or you're not going to get a lot of boost. But your suggestion works very well for my game, so I really appreciate it. :)

I love cats so you got me at the point I read "Catmas" xD

The game is fun I liked playing it. :3

But I think using the green cane could use a little bit of polishing because after jumping you get dragged down with such a force that it feels kinda awkward + the camera also might need some smoothing while jumping in general.

But like I said great game I enjoyed it! <3

Developer

Thanks for the comment! Yeah, I'll admit the green candy cane physics is kind of wonky in the game. It's something I haven't figured out how to manipulate on GDevelop yet.

The game concept is extremely fun. It's very collect-the-red-coins vibes which has always been a fun concept. Wonderful job using momentum and candy canes to make a fun product!

I really liked this game! The music/ambiance was really nice and relaxing! You were able to turn a really simple concept into a nice and polished game!

I wasn't able to finish the whole thing (as of now, I plan on continuing later) because I go stuck on level five :)

Developer

Thanks for the comment! Yeah, I made level 5 a tricky one since I wanted to add at least one hard level into the game. Even I had a bit of a trouble beating it. 😅
