Took me quite a bit of time to get used to the controls, but the gameplay itself as REALLY fun. I love this idea. I think it'd be nice if you could control the camera with the keyboard or something, because the "drag to use camera" feature didn't seem to be working for me. Even if it was user error, my left hand was just sitting there doing nothing so it wouldn't hurt. Awesome awesome game regardless, creative idea. 💝
They are DEFINITELY unfair, I feel you. It's total RNG code and could be made to consider the player more. I feel as though random is sort of a lazy and quick way to ensure fun playing a game over and over, but a good developer will add a little bit of control amongst the randomness. In future projects if the time is there, we will definitely consider that, so thanks for bringing that up. <3
You ABSOLUTELY nailed momentum, candy cane, AND christmas. All that being said this game is FRUSTRATING to play, it's like if someone surrounded you in jello and said "You like challenges though yeah??" it just doesn't make my soul happy. The art is top notch, the movement code is fantastic as well. I think the concept just didn't hit me right, but that certainly doesn't take away from your idea.
This is one of the most bizarre experiences. The amount of effort it took to make this is mind-boggling, I'm thoroughly impressed with how much you've whipped up! I also found the songs to be kind of bangin', the sense of rhythm is there, and there's a great bit of eerieness in the note choices. However some of them don't really loop properly, I don't know if that's just an intentional choice to add to the chaos. And also, the games felt very pointless to play, albeit incredibly thorough and detailed with code and artwork. It's all pretty opinion-based, so it doesn't really say much about the quality of your work! It just didn't feel like much of a challenge, nor did it feel to have a point other than to sort of be subjected to very detailed craftsmanship.
Gameplay is STRAIGHT heat. You did a wonderful job indicating to the player how to perform well without being blatant about it, which is definitely a sign of a game dev extraordinaire. The dialogue and cutscenes at the beginning always give bonus points in my opinion because you do an excellent job helping me care about the game with the context. Great submission!!!
Geez! The art, sfx, and music are stellar. Being able to squeeze in that many puzzles in just the week jam is also extremely impressive! The game runs very smooth, no bugs that I noticed. I really can't think of any critique other than maybe that the snowman enemy's hitboxes were not super reflected by their sprite size, but you may have done that for balance purposes. It did add the appropriate amount of difficulty.
Great, great entry!!
Okay this game is f***ing insane. The dialogue is genius, I was literally hooked on the interactions. The GAMEPLAY was incredible. Being able to sling yourself side to side to avoid the elfs or shoot them with "year old cookies (genius btw)" was incredibly fun. It wasn't too long either, and I'm so blown away that there was an ending cutscene.
Super good job!!! I would be thrilled to see this game get #1. You guys have game developer brains!
Okay wtf, amazing composition for the main theme in this game! I'm thoroughly impressed. The art is quite good as well. The gameplay is a bit confusing unfortunately which could be a me thing. I also kept getting stuck on straight land as if the collision was maybe a little buggy. Cool piece of work, and great job overall!
Candy cane riding a candy cane is awesome. 🤣 This honestly feels like the embodiment of the momentum theme, you did a great job with that. I will say it feels a little wonky to play, like it's not crazy intuitive to make adjustments midair and with how fast you start building up speed it can make it very hard to make the right movements without re-running it, which is a type of game in itself honestly, so that could just be a personal gripe.
LMAO I just about lost it when I opened up the game and it was playing Mario Kart music, but you mentioned it in the credits. xD Hella fun game! I really wanna bring attention to how good it feels to land on a grind rail (candycane). The way it speeds up is hella satisfying, like Sonic Adventure or something haha. I did think sometimes it was lame how I'd fly into the sky after doing a dope shred on the rails and then land right on a bunch of santas without being able to see them or react ROFL. Very fun regardless, thanks for the entry!
Okay this game is fire LOL. First off, the intro instructions are really well done - crystal clear explanation. Second off, the art is dope. I kinda like that you hand-wrote the notes as well. It's a little buggy at times and I think it could have felt a little better to ram into the opponent with maybe some clearer SFX, but that's all stuff you'd easily be able to patch up with more time. Fantastic entry, especially it being your first entry! Great work.
Z is traditionally A in a lot of emulators, so it's common to use Z and X as A and B as it is much more efficient than space/backspace/enter if there are a series of keys you need to press.
In this case, space probably could have been a good choice, but it's certainly not a bizarre selection. I would say it's hardly an issue.
Holy shit, you're a genius. I won't spoil anything! The gameplay is addicting, the art is cute, and has some awesome Fire Emblem-esque music. At the end of the day, the game made me feel and think alongside the literal and metaphorical messages that were being revealed to me, and I appreciate that a lot.
This is a cool spin on visual novel-style dating sims! I like that you can move around and interact with items in between conversations. I don't play a lot of VNs, but I haven't played anything in this realm yet. The main theme that plays is quite catchy. I think it'll be super exciting when there are more characters, and I like that you reveal that information to the player. Thanks for working on a project like this! Keep it up :)
Okay legit, it's been a hot minute since I've been addicted to a jam game. It was frustrating at first, and once I kind of understood it, it feels like the perfect balance of power and challenge. The audio queues are really amazing, and I think it'd be a perfect game with a "crown pick-up" sfx. Overall, completely blown away. Great job!
This game is f***ing insane. First off, I open up the game and I'm like :catjam: sittin' on the menu for like a whole minute. Then I open up the game, and i'm like yoooooo this is a whole puzzle game? It's actually very fun for sub 3 day level design. The fact that there are different branches of levels is crazy, too. Very very quality design; thoroughly impressed with the submission.
God, the movement is really slick. It feels incredibly satisfying to play the tunes as well. For a weekend long game, I'm impressed. This is a look into what you can do with such a cool concept. With even more options at the player's disposal, the player will feel super creative with their problem solving.
Nice work!
