Did you learn anything new during the jam?
I used loads of assets (listed in the description) all the integration code and gameplay is new. The Koreographer asset (doing the rhythm and dancing cows) was brand new to me, so I had to learn that and music markup for it. Cool asset!!!

Aren't you awesome for creating a game?

Using free assets is frowned upon by many, but I really appreciate how you used them to not spend too much time on the technical side of things and create (head)space for yourself to make something unique. The headbanging cows are brilliant! The rhythm game is lacking input feedback and sometimes the tracks were a bit too long. But overall a unique experience. Good job!

Thanks for the feedback, very helpful and encouraging. Yeah - people often frown upon the use of assets and honestly, if you are just flipping them then sure there is no creativity to be admired. But those of us who accept we are good at some things and not at others do far better when we complement our strengths with those of others (you really don’t want to see my artwork, but my code is good enough to share).

I enjoyed doing the cows a great deal. I’m thinking an iteration on this might be to make them dance with IK, the better you play the song the better they dance. I’ve not learned IK properly yet so that would be a good challenge.

Totally agree with respect to feedback (it would be easy for me to add a pop and jiggle for hit and miss - and sits within my art skills). Also agree on the song length. I actually intended to have it so the song ended when all the cows in each herd had been attracted, but sadly ran out of time.

Wow, this wasn't what I was expecting. What a nice surprise. Lots of different game mechanics and ideas going on here. Very impressive for a game jam. Well done @wizards_code!

Thank you. It’s truly amazing what can be done with assets, imagination and some glue code. I enjoyed doing this one more than most game jam entries.

I really respect the detailed explanations in your devlog and game page as to the inspirations for your game and things that are important to you.

It was really useful for other devs to see the advantage of using pre-made assets, making it possible to still work solo in a game jam and have a game that looks as great as yours.

I really can't say I've played anything like this before - and thats one of the great things with gamejams is that you get a chance to be creative and make some memories! A few bits of gameplay feedback - mainly the music mini game - I think this was an asset as you said but would be great if there was better feedback if you hit a note and the score colour was easier to see about the backdrop.

Thanks HonestDan. I agree, there is no shame in using Assets. If I were a studio I would have a budget for for staff to build this stuff, but for a prototype just throw them in and do something cool, if it works then expand and improve on them. Of course, the trick is to use them in creative ways rather than just flip them.

I totally agree about feedback in the rhythm game. Maybe some camera shake when you miss a note and visible “pop” on the note if you hit.
