A great laser (game ;-)) ๐๐ฎ.
GAMEPLAY
The innovative approach to utilizing the laser in gameplay, where destruction also plays a key role in strategy and level completion, is both clever and engaging. The incorporation of recoil and the necessity to be judicious with your shots to successfully navigate levels adds a layer of strategic depth. This ensures players must consider their actions carefully to progress, enhancing the gameplay experience. Really had a lot of fun shooting the laser, even when that meant I failed the level. You do need some planning to complete the levels so it is not just action. Nice combination.
ART STYLE / VISUALS
The game's aesthetic, characterized by coherent beautiful pixel art, is visually great. The laser effects and animations are particularly noteworthy of course. Maybe some objects could be more highlighted like the keycards and computer and exits as important, but not a real problem.
AUDIO / SOUND DESIGN
The soundtrack, while a bit loud at the start, fits the game's theme and intensity, adding an energetic layer to the gameplay. Sound effects further enhance the ambiance, making each action and its consequences feel impactful.
INNOVATION
Introducing a laser mechanism that allows for level destruction within the constraints of a game jam duration s really nice.
THEME
The theme of consequences is effectively integrated into the gameplay, with each shot and choice carrying weight and impacting the level's outcome.
Overall, this game is a very well polished and highly enjoyable entry.
Keep up this great work, and we are looking forward to your future projects! ๐๐๐น๏ธ
Pretty original and fun concept. Good art style.
Thanks for playing! Glad you liked our concept and art in the game!
Well done!
I think the concept is very good. The laser having the ability to destroy blocks and healing stations is a good tie to the theme.
The environment looks so good too, with all the details like cables, plants and machines. One thing I would point out though, is that I think the background is a little too busy with some of the background tiles being just as prominent as the actual solid tiles. Sometimes it was hard to tell what was a solid tile and what was background. Maybe lowering the contrast between the colors on the background tiles would help.
I noticed some stutter the first time I shot the laser and the first time I hit some of the blocks I think it was. This makes me think this is caused by godot's shader caching (it also affects particles) and it is specially noticeable on lower-spec systems on web. What I usually do to avoid this stutter, is hide a subviewport containing these particles and shader materials behind a loading screen. The subviewport must be visible at some point for the shaders to be cached though, so I tend to make it tiny (2x2 px). When the loading screen fade out starts, the particles are "shown" for a split second, getting cached, while not really being visible to the player.
There might be other ways to go about it, but this has worked for me so far. You can look up Godot Shader pre-caching if you want to read more about it.
Other than that, nice job! I enjoyed playing your game!
Thank you for playing our game and giving feedback! Yes, every time particles on Godot were being shown for the first time in some gameplay there is a bit of stutter and while it is not a game breaking bug, it is something that interrupts the gameplay.
I actually did consider just showing those particles to counter this stuttering issue when these particles show up at the start of the game, so that during gameplay it wouldnโt interrupt the flow of the game (But this did not end up happening). So, after reading your post about the whole thing, I will consider the method you are telling me about fixing this particles issue in my future games!
Great game!!! Of course the laser takes center stage, and gotta love the destructable environment and health as ammo that makes you think every shoot. I don't want to forget to mention the great aesthetics!
Thank you for playing our game! Iโm glad you liked the visuals, the fact that you can destroy everything, and also noticing that shooting the laser also costs health as a consequence!
I never knew I needed a gigantic laser beam in my life until now. It's a fun game.
Thanks for playing! Iโm happy you liked the laser in our game and thought it was fun!
I was definitely not expecting that LAZOR and how strong it was, I found it very funny. The aesthetics are incredible, very well done, and I also liked that you could destroy the map, very well done!.
Thank you for playing! Glad you found the laser funny and enjoyed breaking the map!
This is a nice game! the sound is a bit loud though. especially when the dialogue shows up. The game mechanics though is fun. I really love destroying things in the game world
Thank you for playing and giving feedback! I am glad that although the sound was too loud in the game, you found the gameplay mechanics fun!
Great pixel art and theme. I love that you can destroy important gameplay elements if you are not careful. Great stuff!
Thanks for playing! Iโm glad that you liked the art and the take on the theme where important gameplay elements that are needed to complete the game (Keycards for completing the level, computers for healing the player during each level) can be lost if not careful enough!
I really liked your game a lot. I love the pixel art and the laser mechanic is great. It's a bit tricky to use, and if it were a bit slower, I think the control would be better. Congratulations, I think it's a very good game!
Thank you for playing the game! It is great to hear that you enjoyed the art and the game mechanic. I will definitely take note on things being too fast to control, so thanks for the feedback!
It have it all!
The concept of having a Big laser that you can use to destroy everything, 5/5!
Thanks for playing! I am happy that you enjoyed our game mechanic of destroying everything with a huge laser!
LASER! Keycard destroyed - whoopsie. Really nice game and great implementation of consequences.
Thanks for playing the game! I am happy to hear that you liked our game and implementation of the theme! Also love how you mentioned what would happen if you used the laser too much/carelessly: A destroyed keycard!
GOTY. For me, the winner of the jam
Thank you for playing! I am flattered that you think this way about our game and glad that you enjoyed!
I was really surprised at the level of polish this game has. I died in the starting room because the laser was cool. I would have loved some clearer exits and some more noticeable key cards, I just kinda picked em up by accident. A nice game!
Thanks for playing the game and giving feedback! I am glad you liked the polish and the laser in our game! I totally forgot to make keycards more apparent to the players but I am glad you enjoyed the other aspects of the game.
The art was really good, but the sound was waaay too loud, and well done with the consequences making the player destroy the level if they want to use the weapon ๐
Thank you for playing! I am sorry for the loud sound, but I am glad that you thought our game did well with the theme! Next time I will pay more attention to customizable audio with settings and consider starting audio not at 100%.
It definitely puts a spin on the Consequences theme with a 2d platformer, the art looks beautiful and the gameplay is excellent.
Thank you for playing! I am glad that you enjoyed the gameโs approach to the consequence theme, the art, and the gameplay!
