The graphics are pretty solid, I loved the choice of colors. The music was a bit too loud in the menu, but otherwise fine.

I must point out that these kind of challenging platformers are not my cup of tea, so it did not take much time for me to quit after getting stuck on the same point, but the recommendations already pointed out by others (camera control, spike hitbox, animations) could really ease the feeling of unfairness. I also felt it was too hard to make the jumps between spikes because the gravity is so strong that if you don't press right, you won't make the jump, but if you do press it, you'll likely walk into the spikes before even jumping. Again, this might just be part of the genre, but it felt unfair to me.

Cool game.  I didn't know I had to back track once I got my double jump at first.  Kinda a homage to Castlevania SOTN which I liked.  The game is quite challenging as I had to quite after a dozen or so attempts at the bottom level with the jumps that are like 7 in a row.  I think an average player can only do 3-4 hard jumps before getting frustrated.  I wished there were more ways to show the player what is happening e.g. death animation, particles, sound effects.  Also, there are some videos about platformer player camera that I recommend watching.  One trick is to let the players see some of the level that's underneath them when falling so they can aim their character a bit better.  You can balance that out by making the jumps a little more challenging.  I see potential in this game and I hope you keep working on it.  Thanks!

The music was pure GASOLINE. You really nailed it.

The hitboxes of the spikes, as others have mentioned, were not rough to say the least. Uber difficult platformers aren't my favorite, so it's not really for me. But the art and work is good.

Also, is the web export broken? I had to download it.

Thank you for sharing :)

I find the hitboxes of the spikes quite unfair and frustrating. I also don’t like that you can just walk into them, I feel like they should have collisions. The player seems to have a rounded collision shape which is a strange choice for a pixel platformer in my opinion. The presentation is decent but I must admit I didn’t get very far.

Classic rage game, I did not get far LOL.

Wasn’t able to get the web version to start, but the windows download started without issue.

  • The main menu is really strong and sets a great mood. Great art choice, great music, and great programing of the intro.
  • Some text clipping happened in the later parts of the intro reel - image.png
  • I might just be bad, but I wish the collision boxes of the spikes / player were a little more forgiving. Something to look into for stuff like this might be a shadow that follows directly under the player, giving them a hint to where they will land.

Nice work! There is a lot of charm to this
