How does your game tie into the theme?
Faith Beyond Repair is a 2D top-down horror game inspired by classic minimalist horror titles like Faith and Alan Wake. Set in a desolate, eerie world, the game plunges players into a nightmarish environment where reality is fragile, and survival depends on navigating the broken boundaries between truth and deception. Armed with a flickering flashlight and a few cryptic dialogues, you must uncover the dark secrets of a haunted town that twists and distorts with every step.

Pretty solid game for your first time, simple but clear graphics, the fog was a bit distracting for me, maybe you could have a simple ground texture and apply a slowly moving fog effect, it would be a simple but strong improvement. The background music was very atmospheric, went great with the mood.

There are some minor improvements which would make it more player-friendly in my opinon:

  • Add the floating "e to interact" instruction to everything I can interact with. If only some of them have it (like the gravestones, but not the lamppost), I'll need to keep pushing it to find interactable stuff, while if it's consistent, I don't need to worry about that.
  • It wasn't obvious for me that I need to keep talking to the police officer after they told me that the area is closed and I assumed that it was just an expositional warning. This resulted in me running around all over the place trying to find anything interesting, but because I did not interact with the policeman, I could not interact with the lamp and the boy gave me no quest, I it was just wandering around aimlessly.

Overall, nice work, keep it going!

Thank you so much for the feedback. I will keep that in mind in my future games. I agree that it can be confusing to navigate the map without proper markers.

awesome entry. it was unique concept and felt well executed. enemies didn't provide much of a challenge but it didn't make it any less enjoyable for me. the atmosphere was spooky, short and sweet. well done!

Developer

Thank You! :D

Good job on the atmosphere on this one, the atmosphere and visuals really set the mood. I do wish there was a bit more threat in the game, the enemies felt easy to avoid. Other than that, it's a nice short horror game!

Got it! Make enemies more harder. I thought those monsters were creepy enough, so didn’t made it hard.

Pure style and atmosphere. I need to confess that you sharing your progress inspired me to implement a fog shader in my own entry, so I owe you! It was a touch buggy, but it felt good to play. The Faith inspiration was clear and tangible and I feel like you did a good job of capturing it in a short time frame.

Also, your music was phenomenal. Would love to chat in discord about how you pulled it off.

Thank you for submitting, great entry!

Glad I could make an inspiration! for me the Silent Hill fog gave me an idea to add similar vibe.

The music is just royalty free content with little attenuation tweaked inside Godot. Feel free to check out the resources from my Github.

Atmosphere is well done here, love how you did the game over screen. I am wondering if some stuff doesn’t reset properly when you die?

Developer

Thank You! Yes, the game over screen was something I did invest my time on.

This is really cool! Love the atmosphere. This is the type of stuff that makes me really want to make a horror game for one of these jams lol.

This is my very first full game (kinda) release for a Game Jam. Took about ~3 days from the start of the competition. The game is inspired from series like Faith. I love the artwork and its simplicity with 2d retro graphics.

Will welcome all the feedbacks :)
