Game Description
Welcome to Void Skater, a game where an ever growing void tries to devour you. Armed with just a skateboard, you try your best to escape this ever growing void. There's just one problem, the streets you roam isn't without obstacles. You'll run into obstacles like trash cans, trash bags, bollards, car tires(?) and rocks. Can you dodge your way through all the obstacles while skating away from the void?
How does your game tie into the theme?
An ever growing void follows the player. If the player hits an obstacle, the void consumes him and you need to restart the game.

Nice game to think about life, because you forgot to set the music on loop, so after around 10000 points it was only me and my thoughts.
Just kidding. It was a very simple, but nice entry for your first Game Jam. Congrats!
Very fun simple infinite runner. You did a good job creating a complete experience with an aesthetic and what is most often missed, sound. Keep this up and I'm sure you'll make something great soon.
Simple but fun, and yes, the Chrome dinosaur obviously comes to mind, which is not a bad thing. As others said: more variety for replayability would be nice. Also some twist about the void, currently it does not really add to the game besides the story. A simple idea could be that it consumes more of the screen so that you can’t look as much ahead anymore. And then maybe ways to get further ahead again so that the void is pushed back?
Wow, that's actually a really awesome way to add way more to the game with less effort. Thanks for the suggestion. :D
Really liked the aesthetics of this game (game page, Classic GameBoy theme. I fell for the coin-looking like obstacle the first run! Reminds me of the Chrome offline dinosaur game! Has potential to add in other ways to outrun the void, or to be threatened by it!
Played this game on stream, if youre interested in watching me go through it heres the vod timestamped to your game
Its a nice small arcade-like game. If you work on it more in post jam something that would be a great addition would be adding in some more variety to the level (you mentioned widening the randomization gap below but also stuff like having different kinds of obstables is always great, e.g. things that spawn in the air instead of on the ground) to add some more replayability to it
Ran into a bug where the music didnt loop that I talked about a bit in the stream
Thanks for playing my game on stream :D. I actually found out about the music loop bug after submitting it. I'm actually releasing a patch after the jam which fixes that issue as well as fix the issue where the sound effects mute button doesn't actually mute the jump sound. I'm not sure if I'll continue working on this (it's my first ever game), but it shouldn't be too hard to implement flying obstacles to the spawner code. I'll definitely consider it if I continue working on it, so thanks for the suggestion :D.
Really entertaining :)
Fun little game, and really nice usage of the retro-style palette!
Awesome game, simple but fun and good looking!
Thanks :D
reminds me of the game on google chrome when my internet doesnt work
Although the game is simple, the presentation (graphics, sound design, way the void slides) is great!
Thank you :D
Nice! I managed to get to the score of 8000.
It's fun to play and fun to try to beat your highscore. The visuals and the music are also cool.
I would suggest adding some randomness in the way obstacles spawn, because right now they all appear at a fixed rate, meaning that the game is kind of the same each time you play, and you end up relying on muscle memory more than on your reaction speed.
But overall, a nice entry!
Thank you so much for the kind words :-). There was actually randomization, but you're right. The gap between where obstacles could randomly spawn was way too small to notice at all, and I regret not widening the range of randomness.
Love the aesthetic and the gameplay!
Thank you :-)
