A bit loose on the theme maybe, but I absolutely ADORE the core mechanic. Feels like there's a lot of untapped potential here! Also, great job on the overall presentation. Definitely one of my favorites this jam. :)

Developer

Thanks so much for playing! Yeah I spent a while thinking on the theme and couldn't come up with anything that excited me that tied super strongly to the theme. I therefore leant into the wildcards a bit to try tie it all together! Glad you enjoyed it!

As others mentioned, it took me a bit to figure out that jumping triggered the rocks. Once I figured that out, though, I was kind of expecting a level where I had to be really careful when and how I jumped or the level would be stuck, but never really experienced that.

That said, this was a cool idea, and I especially like the level where you kind of had to ride a rock down and move it over to get through. There’s definitely a lot of potentially here that I’m sure would make continuing on this project worthwhile.

Nice job!

Thanks for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I had quite a few more ideas for levels but in the end ran out of time to implement them all.

Cool concept and a fun game. As someone else mentioned, it took me a little while to realize that only full jumps would trigger rocks. I also ran into a bug in the second room where the rock landed on the corner of the character and got stuck there but didn't kill me, so I couldn't complete the room. Because this was before you introduced R as restart, I ended up just reloading the page. Very nice variety of puzzles and good sound effects.

Thanks so much for playing!

That's great to know. Apologies for letting that happen as I thought I'd tested it thoroughly enough that you were unable to get stuck before you learn the reset button!

Just goes to show there is never enough play testing you can do!

This is probably my favorite game I've played so far in this jam. I think the mechanic you came up with was fantastic. It made for some really fun levels. I think the last two were particularly creative. I wish the game had been longer because I bet you could come up with a large amount of interesting levels. I also really enjoyed the art style.

Overall, great job! This was a really fun game. :)

Thanks so much for playing! Yeah I really like the idea behind the main mechanic for the game but ran out of time to really get into making some interesting levels!

I hope to one day expand the game into something larger, maybe a metroidvania with multiple gems and different powers that expand on the mechanic.

Interesting game! Thanks for sharing!

This was cool! It took me a while to figure out that jumping is what made a falling rock fall (sometimes? I think?) but impressive otherwise. I played until I got stuck (see screenshot)

Developer

Thanks for playing! Yeah the rocks fall each time you jump (unless it's a tiny jump) and only spawn if there isn't already a rock coming from that specific spawner.

Ah yes. You can restart each level by hitting 'R' which I tried to teach earlier in the game but I definitely could have done it better!

Thanks for the feedback

Nice graphics

Got stuck in one of the levels, not sure how to controls rocks. I once managed to move it, but then was crushed by it

Developer

Thanks for playing!

Can I ask what level you got stuck on? You need to collect the gem on screen 7 to unlock the ability to move the boulders. Every room before then can be completed without moving them

Submitted

that's where I got stuck. I picked the gem and somehow moved the boulder, but could never really properly control it. Managed to do it once, but then the rock fell on me :)

Developer

Ah I see. It's the arrow keys to move the boulder. Left and right move it left and right. Up spins it and down drops it quicker. There is a little tip showing that in the bottom right of the screen but maybe that isn't obvious enough. Thanks for letting me know!

I cant move the boulder... tried so many times.  Collected the gem.. sometimes it moved a bit, if i jumped into the boulder at just the right time but there was no control.  Shame looks good.

Developer

Thanks for playing! That's so strange I've never hit and issue with controlling the boulder at all. Just to double check you're on the level with the green gem and once you've collected the gem and a new boulder spawns you can move it with the arrow keys?

If so can I ask if you're on pc or Mac? I'd love to try recreate this and get a fix sorted!

Submitted

A boulder does not spawn when I collect the gem.  One does fall in the middle when I land though.  Its the one that falls that I am attempting to control.  Running on a PC, using chrome.  Good luck buddy :)
