Nice aesthetic, I liked how the eyes popped through the trees.

A lovely little game with wonderful style and straightforward gameplay. Also, the quintessential example of what a perfect tutorial screen (or scene, in this case) looks like. Sometimes simplicity ends up resonating the most, and between the art, animations, music, UI design, and imagination, this one glazed my heart with honey garlic sauce and will end up being more memorable than some of the larger games I've played this jam.

And a solo effort too? Wooowww. You're one to watch. :)

I love the artistic direction! Animations are also great (harvesting is my favorite).  Just a remark, the sprite rotation when you are going up or down seems a bit strange to me. May be only rotating up or down the head would be more "natural".

The music is great for the menu, really chill. But it doesn't fit the in-game pacing wich is more nervous.

 Good submission for sure.

First of all, i loooved tha art style. Nice job! But I must complain about the controls. Having to use the same key to harvest and to shoot is problematic. Maybe you could change the shoot key to a different one, like F, for example. And the music feels weird, like it's on a different vibe. Other than that, great game!

Hi!

Thank you for your honest feedback, it really helps us identify areas for improvement!

I initially wanted to keep a single key for both actions to make the game accessible for very-casual player. There's a bug and you need to repress a direction to spell. I couldn't fix it in time. I should have assigned harvest to a different key, as you suggested you're right.

As for the music, I love creating it, but I'm a complete amateur. Every jam starts with a blank canvas for me. Autumn means for me nostalgia but the slow rhythm and long reverb do not fit with the fast-paced of the game after consideration. (But my guitar skills are too limited to play faster!)

I understand what you mean, and don't get me wrong, the music was nice, I liked it, but I felt like it didn't fully fit with the rest of the mood. It's great you can make your own music! Good job!

Really nice art style and overall atmosphere, I especially liked changing the angle of the character when pulling a carrot, nice touch. At first I wasn't sure about having one button for both using wand and pulling carrots at, but it ended up working pretty well.

Also I somehow managed to push myself with a cauldron out of sight once. Did the cauldron have an Area2D that pulls anyone inside of the area with the cauldron when its flung? Maybe excluding the character launching it could work?

Hello, thank you for your feedback!

Concensus in coments that one button was a bad idea ^^.

To be honest, in my previous GWJ game, I had two separate inputs – left click and right click. But some players had trouble realizing there were two actions, even though it was clearly explained in the text and there was even a tutorial(a tutorial !)! This frustration drove me to try the one-button, two-actions approach ^^

About the bug... Yes, it's a bit frustrating, and it also happens with the fox... I did not manage to find if it is the player that is stuck to the moving object or if I just forgot to exclude the player to the spell coliision mask... I was hoping that it wouldn't be too troublesome for your testing.

Ah about the previous game's inputs, sometimes bit of a damned if you do damned if you don't kind of situation then? I sort of ended up making a short tutorial with prompts at the start of my game, that stops the player from getting into the actual game unless they have pressed both interact and attack inputs :D

Really like the art-style, music and the player's moving animation. This is a cute and relaxing little game.

Cute game!  Simple and well executed, with a nice art style.

This is absolutely adorable. I love the animation for pulling out the vegetables.

The art style and music is excellent!

Thank you ^^ I take a lot of pleasure in creating them. Since I'm primarily a dev, I invest a lot of time in these aspects, and I'm delighted that they are well-received ^^

That was super cute! I loved the minimal storybook style of the whole thing and it was pretty fun. My only recommendation would be to have two separate controls because it's very hard to intentionally use the spell or pull a veggie. :)

The graphics look REALLY GOOOODD, especially the title art. Sadly you haven't ticked the Shared Array Buffer box under the game settings, so it's not currently playable.

Developer

Thanks for the help. I hope you can play the game now.

I went to sleep because I thought I had to recompile, but with the time left, it wasn't compatible. Thanks a lot for the info; it's resolved now.

Aw, the game page looks like it’s missing the Shared Array Buffer setting under Frame Options, so I can’t play it. The screenshot makes it look really great though!

Oops, I'm sorry, it's fixed. I encountered quite a few issues, and 30 minutes before the end, one of them made me rage-quit. Thanks a lot for the help.
