I think you're really onto something here, the core idea of being able to create a level for yourself with randomly generated pieces is so good it'd be a shame not to expand on it! The main missing ingredient here is polish -- hit-flashes, SFX, tile previews, etc. -- but honestly I feel like that's less important for a 48 hour game, and what really matters is exploring an interesting idea (which you did!) Nice work!

Very fun game, I think some sort of score system where you get a point for every tile placed would benefit the game loop!

I loved art. Great job!

by the way could you play and rate my game?

I like the idea but you could have done more for the execution, I would have preferred that there was like a transparent preview of what the tile is. I know it would have made the player play in a different way but I think it would have been a fun personal challenge to keep every enemy spawner nearby and just create a large symetrical arena to fight in

Thanks for playing! Yeah, that’s a good idea, to have a clearer indicator like that. There is a message at the top stating what the next tile will be, but it’s probably not clear enough.

…I did not see it, damn.

This is what makes game jams so delicious.  You captured the mechanics of a truly fun commercial game here.  48 hours just is not enough to round out the experience.  So those comments asking for more, I understand why (because its so good), however, I am so grateful you captured the core of such a good game.  There are a million different ways to build on this and that too is a sign of a solid foundation.

Well done!  I NEED to play the next iteration!  Thank you!

Nice presentation,  it would be cool if acid tiles affected enemies too.

Very polished work. Incredible, my Meemaw and my brother-in-law both said that I resemble one of the slime entities on a good day. Ha ha. :).

Good art direction! Would have been nice to hear things, but I know that sound can be frustrating, so I'm not holding that against you in a 48 hour jam.

This game itself, though, is frustrating. This could just be me, being easily really frustrated by roguelikes, but there is a terrifyingly high standard deviation for luck here. In one run I got 7 hearts and put at least 30 tiles down before finding something that could harm me. In another, I was literally surrounded at spawn by enemy spawners and pools of acid.

It's also hard to read at times: it didn't even occur to me that the game actually told me which tile I was about to place, it takes me a moment to tell if I was actually hit by an enemy, and the health bar colors are switched (red means health,  green means damage).

Developer

I agree that the tiles are too random, they spawn randomly with a particular probability, but I should have made it less random than that. I was also going to make it so that the next tile to spawn would be shown as an image, maybe as the face of a die, rather than as text, but I ran out of time to implement that. Anyway, thanks for playing it, and for the feedback!

Really, really good presentation. Looks like a finished project not a game jam production :D Cool ideas but it lacks interesting win condition as right now it encourages camping a single spawn point.

The art is awesome!

Very good presentation, i really like the art style of the game :)

love the art, super pleasing color palette!

I like it a lot!

One change i would have made is that tiles placed have to be connected to another and within your reach. Otherwise you can put all the acid outside of the little room you built, but it's a super interesting concept

Congrats on what you accomplished! I really like this idea of being in control of both the creation and exploration of the space. I think it could be helpful to have multiple tiles spawn in at the same time to speed up the process.
