Your game totally messes with my phobias haha, but it’s super cool and I really loved the graphics , especially the cute little bunnies!
Thank you! Worked hard to get those bunnies just right! lol
Great game! I really like the visuals. I think music would add some atmosphere, but everything else about this game is great!
Yes I need to add sound for sure. Thanks for playing!!
You are welcome!
Really good game, I had fun playing it! The movement feels unique and smooth. It took me a while to realize I could climb all the walls. The monster was cool too. Overall, a really nice experience!
Thank you man! Yup slither right up the walls lol
Yo, literally Rain World.
Amazing work!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Cool game! I really like the idea and had fun playing it. But there’s a problem with the optimization: when you eat a lot of rabbits and the knight falls and monsters appear, the game becomes more and more laggy. It feels like the monsters and rabbits you ate before never get deleted, and I noticed the same issue with other godot users too. but the art style and the idea what matter i give it 5 stars
Thank you so much! Optimization is definitely something I will have to work on in the future. Thank you for your rating!
Nice gameplay loop! The monster in the night looks good. Some bgm would have made this feel a lot better. For some reason the game started lagging suddenly. But overall a unique experience. I would like to hear your opinion on my submission as well :)
Yeah I need to add music. Sadly no time in the jam. I spent all my time on trying to nail the visuals. I will definitely play your game!
The movement was unique but intuitive. After the tutorial bit where you have to venture off it became really hard to find any bunnies in nearby areas, and since you're still relatively small it's hard to navigate back if you fall. I restarted the game a couple of times because I just couldn't get back and there didn't seem an easy way to reset from scratch since the monster never came to get me when I was lost.
I also encountered a glitch where animals were just frozen mid air not moving, and you can't eat or interact with these animals.
The art was excellent, the concept was very unique, and the design of the snake and the monster were really good!
Oh no! Floating animals?!?! lol Thank you so much! This information is so valuable to me cause I've got to track that down and find it's cause now! Also the fact that the monster never cam for you... That's very not good lol
Thank you for playing through all the bugs! I'm so glad you found the movement intuitive I wasn't sure if something so odd would end up working.
Here is what it looks like if you've never encountered it, although hard to tell they are frozen from a picture
Oh dang! Levitation goat! lol Thanks I will get on this!
one of most creative games of jam. nice job
Thank you!
The art in this is so well executed. Everything really feels alive with the wind and movement. I stumbled into a moonwalking goat so bonus points for that. Cool little game!
Hey man thank you! Those goats were a very last minute addition. Was hoping to make lots of animals that you could get bigger and bigger and eat more and more, but ran out of time.
Love the art style and the movement, it's too good. It's fun slithering around. I think it's only me that game started lagging at some areas.
Well maybe not lol Some other people complained about that. I'll have to work on optimization. Thanks for playing though!
What a uniquely bizarre experience—playing as a snake! Its uncanny yet fascinating movement feels radically different from controlling humans, cars, or spaceships in typical games. I bet nailing that pixel-perfect snake animation was a major pain point, so huge props for pulling it off!
As a bunny lover, my heart breaks having to eat rabbits (just kidding 😭). Was that black monstrosity inspired by spiders? It totally looks like some mutated arachnid. Regardless, I'm absolutely hooked on Life Cycle's core mechanics and pixel art—thoroughly impressed! 👍😄
Thank you SO much man! The Bark Monster was actually inspired by a glitch I had when making the snake. lol His body was stretching out weird and jerking and twitching like an antenna of an insect or something really weird. So I just copied the code and put two glitched snake bodies on a small body and colored it all brown. Then I gave him 2 procedurally animated legs but it looked kind of funny to see those HUGE horns supported by 2 little spindly legs So I gave him some more. And then I had the Bark Monster.
So long story short. He was not only not intended to have lots of legs, he wasn't even supposed to have those big horns either. He just came alive as I worked on the game.
I thank you again for your kind words and all the time you played!
The movement was great. Did it not have any audio at all? Also, I didn't know how to get back up after falling to another chunk of floating island.
Yeah didn't have time for audio )`:
You've got to coil up your body to jump higher. Also you should TRY as much as possible to not fall too far until you're longer and get jump higher. Thank you so much for playing!
Love the concept and had a lot of fun playing your game! I was especially impressed with how the snake moved and the creepiness of the monster. I would love to see how your project continues to develop after the jam.
I think I might turn it into a game like Getting Over It, or A Difficult Game About Climbing, as many people have mentioned that they like the character controller. Thank you so much for your time!
The art is simply amazing for a jam submission. This was a lot of fun! also remind me of Carrion
Thanks so much man! I appreciate that! I worked hard on that art.
I have no clue how you managed to make such an original way of moving the character and yet make it feel so smooth to learn, amazing design ! Would have love to have a sprint button, some sound effects, music and maybe a stomach HUD to know what you still need to eat before sleeping. The game actually reminds me a lot of Rain World from the procedural snake animation (Amazing BTW !) and time cycle mecanic.
The monster really creeped me out (for real) might have to do with it's spidery style, I'm actually glad there was no sound I couldn't have handle Arachnid sounds and would have closed the game instantly xD
OMW!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! Having my game compared to Rain World is the greatest compliment anyone could EVER pay to me!!! That game is just SO beautiful!! It's the greatest game of ALL TIME!! This doesn't deserve to even be compared to it so thank you SO MUCH! And yes. When I heard loop, the cycles in Rain World were the first thing to come to mind. This was heavily inspired by that only in mine you're (almost) the top of the food chain instead of the bottom. Also not very big food chain cause, you know, 4 days lol.
Also thank you for all those suggestions. I was trying to do as little HUD as possible but of course the bug with the text kinda defeated that )`: And of course i will add sound eventually didn't have time in jam.
I was sure you liked Rain World ahah (I mean I bet everyone who has played this game a bit did). I think you should really go in that procedural animation and original movement style for future games if you liked doing it. I should try it at some point, the mixing of programming and art in this process really appeals me more and more !
Yeah man! It's hard to optimize it and people were having trouble with framerate but if I can get better at it I will for sure. Fun note about this game, the clouds in the background are just the godot icon with a shader slapped onto them. Stuff like that is cool cause I can just copy that over for other games. And I can modulate them for sunset and stuff. So yeah I would totally recommend you try it out.
I was actually wondering how you made the clouds ! I thought they were 3D models that you brang forward and backwards making they clip through a 2D sky sprite xD If you have a link or the code for the shader I will gladly try it out for my own games ahah
I can send you the shader! Here email me at this junk email of mine and I'll dig through all my spam to find you and then give you my contact info: doffilla@gmail.com
Sent you an email bro, thanks for sharing !
I like how to control that the game present and mechanic made me enjoy.
Thanks for playin' man! I really enjoyed your submission as well.
This game is really good!!! The controls feel amazing and the art is so so good!!! I like the idea of being a lil snake and keep growing and growing, this reminds me of Carrion. Great work!!!
Someone else mentioned Carrion too. I'll have to play that game sometime. Thanks for playing!
Sick controller mechanics, never seen anything like it, except for more complex examples like Carrion. The snake rendering is awesome, and the visuals are solid overall. Just the inner tiles feel a bit flat. Got a lucky run with bunnies falling into my biome, but still didn't managed to get big enough. Around night eight, FPS suddenly started dropping fast and hit slideshow levels for no obvious reason. Can be RNG-dependent at the start. Cool game, I like it.
Nice! Thanks for playing! Sorry about the text-staying-on-screen glitch. That's patched in the newer version but of course I have to wait for the jam to end to push it here.
As for the framerate I don't know why that would happen... I'll try to do some debugging. Thank you for the feedback!
I have the same problem like Zeroji. Although I am already getting stuck after eating one bunny. Eating 2 is fine and dandy too. But for some reason it will not let me inside the tree so I ventured further. Fell down. Never recovered. :(
Yeah you have to eat more an more the longer you are before you can sleep. And yeah you have to be careful where you fall.
Thanks so much for playing!
I like the idea, but I seem to get stuck after eating two bunnies - there's nothing more to eat in regions that I can come back from, and if I go down to get more bunnies I can never come back up :(
The motion controller is pretty smooth tho, and the snek disgustingly accurate :)
Yeah it can be tricky when you're that short. Try getting longer and then going down. You jump higher based on how long you are and even higher if you coil up first. Thanks for playing!!
