This is super cute, and quite impressive with the random level generation - I honestly didn't even know RPGMaker could do that!

Love that your cats were the voice talent. I made a game like that before 🐈

It can't out of the box but I found a great script that this would not have been possible to do without!

Thanks for your comment! I fully intend to put the little beasts into as many games I make as I can, so hopefully I'll have cleaner audio next go-around lol

Things we loved:

  1. The theme is excellent. I want to play more games where familiars are the stars. You made that happen.
  2. It's very pretty. Great choice of tiles and character sprites, they fit together perfectly.
  3. The music was fun and whimsical.

Consider improving these:

  1. The text box background makes reading tough.
  2. Remove "even" in your intro dialogue. And "Something like" and "pretty" in "pretty weak" in the Familiar's manual.
  3. We eventually got stuck next to the large crystal on level 1, after fighting the slime that was on it. Maybe a logic bug?

Thanks for the feedback! Unfortunately it's hard to test for every possible thing given that this game has randomly generated dungeons but I think I've handled the incidents of lag in the updated version... obviously couldn't do that for the Jam, though lol. I've wanted to make a game starring witch familiars for a while, so glad to get it out there and that people enjoyed the theme!

I have not seen an RPG maker game in a game jam myself before, and despite what I usually expect with RPG maker games, this one manages to stand out with its overall style! Cant wait for this game to be a cult classic in the RPG maker fandom in a couple years, theres alot of room for new stuff if you are willing to work on it long term

I don't know about years but I do have plenty of ideas for improvement and stuff I couldn't fit into it during the jam. And some bug squashing of course! Thank you for the lovely comment! I really wanted it to not feel like a bog standard RPG maker game, so I'm happy to hear I succeeded!
