How does your game fit the theme?
Our game directly ties into the GMTK Game Jam 2024 theme, "Built to Scale," by integrating the concept of musical scales into the core gameplay mechanics. Players must use these scales to evolve and transform the world around them, effectively "building" the environment as they progress. As the player meets objectives, the world scales in unexpected ways, with its size, complexity, and features expanding dynamically based on the musical interactions. This approach not only aligns with the theme but also adds a unique twist, making the scale a literal and integral part of both the narrative and the gameplay. The player's actions and decisions using musical scales continuously reshape the world, ultimately culminating in a surprising plot twist that reinforces the concept of building and scaling within the game.

Our game was developed for the GMTK Game Jam under the theme "Scale to Build," utilizing Godot as the engine and supported by SAI and Photoshop for the art. The game is a unique experience where players must use musical scales to evolve and transform the world around them.

The story unfolds in what appears to be an experimental environment, where the player is tasked with completing various objectives. Each objective achieved triggers changes in the world, scaling it in surprising ways. As players progress, they’ll notice the world evolving dynamically, with new challenges and opportunities emerging from the use of different musical scales.

The game's art style, crafted using SAI and Photoshop, brings this experimental world to life with vibrant and meticulously designed visuals that adapt to the changing environment. The music, composed specifically for the game, not only sets the tone but also plays an integral role in the gameplay, as players must interact with the scales to drive the evolution of the world.

As the player advances and meets the goals, they might find themselves facing a surprising plot twist, adding depth to the narrative and leaving them questioning the true nature of the experiment they are part of.

Artwork is awesome! Sounds also! I only had problem with lack of clues, I went from the lowest to the highest and sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't, overall would love to play after the jam

Really nice looking game! I agree with the other comments that it really needs some clues to be playable past the first level. I’d be interested in giving it another shot if you decide to go back and give it another pass!

I love the art style and the idea!

So, as far as I understand from the other comments, you didn't get around to adding clues to the game? That's really unfortunate, as it kinda breaks the entire gameplay... After the castle scene you can't really see any other content, just because it's kinda impossible to just brute force the 5 key puzzle.

Still, this seems to be a great game as soon as some things get finished. Also, I love the lore implications of the game. Why is Cucho here? And why is he tethered to a heavy weight, keeping him in this room? And who are we?

Oh my god, this is way to interesting of a game concept! :D Really hope you finish it after the jam.

Really cute, but unfortunately really hard to know the right combination, is there any clues somewhere to find the good one (we tried to listen to the pipes but not sure ?) or should we just try randomly ?

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your comment! It’s good to know you found the game cute.

About the combinations, we’re planning to release a post-jam update to add some clues. The idea is to find the right notes scale, but it shouldn’t be a random guessing task. :( :( :(

Not going to lie, I was only able to pass the first combination and go to the castle. I had a bit of trouble understanding how I am supposed to figure out the combination (I tried for quite a long time, actually! Did not want to feel stupid writing this comment, haha!) and the 5 key combination is almost impossible to brute force.

Visually, what a nice looking game! I like that you let the player mess around with items in the world, click and shake them. It gave me a point-and-click adventure game vibe.
Adding to this, audio also feels really good. It fits the aesthetics and also none of the effects feel out of place.

Well done & keep at it!

Thank you for the comment!

We’re glad you liked the aesthetics of the game. We know that at the gameplay level we need to improve how we communicate to players that they are doing things well, but thanks for trying.

The visual style on this one is phenomenal. But, unfortunately, I could not figure out how to play it corretly and wasn't able to found any tutorials. If you can provide me with some directions, I will be looking into it again later. Congratulations on your submission!
