This is an interesting concept! I liked trying to catch certain bullets while dodging others; that felt pretty unique. I do think the enemies changed color a bit too quickly, though maybe I just should have been playing on normal difficulty. I also really liked the minimalist art style. Well done!
Thank you very much for the feedback. I agree with you the difficulty can be adjusted, including the frequency of color switching. I as the developer usually underestimate the difficulty.
That's pretty common! I think it's a good rule of thumb to err on the easy side for jam games, though including difficulty settings like you did is a good idea
First game I had to break out google translate for! (not a bad thing, IMO) Pretty challenging to collect and shoot the right color, though also forgiving in the sense that it doesn’t seem you can die.
I never fully understood how the color matching works. I thought one color projectile does extra damage to a word, and that is the word’s “color group” on the next menu? Or that the meaning of the word is a hint for it’s color? I got Sprechstunde (consultation hours) and Geburtsjahr (year of birth) as an example where meaning -> color isn’t obvious.
Sehr schönes Spiel!
PS on input oddities: I tried it on gamepad (microsoft / xbox gamepad on windows), but the shoot actions didn’t seem to work right (x,y,a,b were in the wrong directions), so ended up playing on keyboard. Another, odd input thing is pressing shift 5 times fast on windows brings up the sticky keys dialogue box! Not game breaking, but a little annoying (it’s not you, it’s windows).
Thank you for trying the game. In particular, thank you very much for reporting the gamepad quirkiness. I have only tested it with a SNES style gamepad. Perhaps I should make a button configuration screen.
About the color: I deliberately make it a bit cryptic so that the it does not scare people away. But well, because you ask: I can tell you Sprechstunde's weak point is red and Geburtsjahr's is yellow. Let's say, Hund (dog). Its is blue. And when the German people write them with their article, they are die Sprechstunde, das Geburtsjahr, and der Hund.
Ah I get it! Thank you for illuminating.
This is a fascinating game. It's hermetic, I would have liked a little bit of a tutorial, though the itch.io page helped. I like the style but what really bothered me is the slap/punch sound, since this would be a low level retro representation, 8-bit like sound effects would be much more adequate to the style of the game. But the concept is interesting.
Also nice to see a game made with LÖVE.
Thank you very much for the feedback. Yes, a tutorial is a planned feature and your comment about the punch sound is fair. It should be down sampled even more to give the authentic 8-bit feeling!
Nice game. The collisions are a bit off sometimes and but the workshop is a nice touch
Thank you very much for the feedback! Physics is difficult.
Damn, this game gets hard! Very interesting to play.
Which engine did you use to make this? Is it self-written?
Thank you very much for the feedback! I used the LÖVE (https://love2d.org/) engine.
It took me quite a while to understand the gameloop, but I think I got it in the end. Neat little game!
Thank you very much for the feedback! I would like to add a tutorial mode, but unfortunatelyI did not have enough time.
