Controls are weird, but awesome concept and 100% for originality. Some more spit&polish and this game will be epic!
Really unique idea, but some stuff:
1. Use different music.
2. It is WAY TOO HARD! I AM able to type with ten fingers and it´s still really difficult for me to play this game, more reaction time would have been amazing.
I hope the feedback helped you, would be nice if you could check out my submission too. :)
There's nothing that I could add here, everyone said everything that there is to say. Concept is great, you can make a great rythm game with it. Unfortunately, controls are the biggest offender here in my oppinion. It's difficult because of them really, they just don't feel right when following shapes on the screen. One thing I want to offer for the controls is to order them differently on the screen, something like letter C on it's back. Idk how to explain so here you go like this xd:
Q R
W E
Thanks for your insights on the game!
It seems that most people have problems with the controls yet each prefers a different layout xD. I guess customizable key bindings are a natural choice.
That's a good concept that, unfortunately, is waaaaay too difficult)
I think this is a pretty cool idea, but it's just too difficult to play right off the bat. The notes came too fast, the shapes were too complicated to match right away, and like The Data Boys said below, trying to match a square shape with a linear set of inputs is confusing. Although I don't agree with the WESD input they suggested - that might make more sense logically but I think trying to actually press all those buttons at one would be fairly difficult. How about turning the shape 45 degrees and using a conventional WASD / arrow key input?
Really like the concept and it perfectly match the theme altho im just bad at this kind of games haha. Nice work!
Super tough but still had fun! Really liked the music!!
Really cool concept but man is it difficult.
Some statistics and facts if anyone is interested:
Level 1 (aka. the only level) has 64 figures to hit, perfect run gives you 208000 points.
The song is 55 seconds long but there is an 11s intro.
It took me 30 minutes (+ testing) to get a no miss run (59 Perfect 3 Great 2 Good).
About an hour before the deadline only a few notes were set. So it is a bit rushed and the difficulty is unbalanced. Again, sorry :)
Best run scored 2060 points for me
Unique idea, has a lot of potential
Great concept. I think the difficulty could be easily solved by changing the keys to a more ergonomic choice. So for Level 1 with the square pattern, use keys W, E, S, and D instead. This would relate more to the movements. Once this is implemented, I think the game will be enjoyable to play and master.
Thanks for the idea! Will implement this and more customizable controls later.
Good evening,
I can only agree with "The Data Boys". The game was fun even without a different key layout but it was impossible for me to get 3 corner shapes forms because it was too weird doing it with QWER. Nonetheless it was fun which quite honestly surprised me but that just shows how well the concept worked as well as the feel of the music compared to the hits. It indeed could have been a bit more easy, especially considering this is the first level (also the only level). But considering this was your first GameJam this is totally fine and a promising start for future GameJams. Before I leave I would like to point out a minor improvement point to think about for future projects, you might want to put the volume slider somewhere where we are able to hear music. I was confused seeing the slider before hearing any sound and then got surprised by the rather loud ingame music. All in all a well start into the world of GameJams, keep up the good work!
Thank you for your wonderful feedback and encouraging words!
The idea initially was to have levels with different vertices count:
Unfortunately, didn't have enough time.
Though I did underestimate the difficulty because I was only testing a few notes before the very end of the jam.
Also, There was a bit of a miscommunication with me and the other developer about the music volume. (I did say that its too loud and the slider should be at 50% by default)
This game is really cool! (And like you already wrote: Also way too hard) But the Idea fits the theme perfectly and it is also very creative!
Wow this is cool. wow this is hard
