Unique idea! I had some difficulty getting the controls to work on my browser, but hope to get it to work soon. I hope to see it developed further! Thanks for sharing.

And if you get a chance to check out my game Foxy Boom Boxy, I would love any feedback, thanks!

The game is far more easier on the controller, the only difficult part is the first 2 jumps, but after that the game is rellativly easier, the movement and jumping are super responsive, however this game does need a few fixes the main things would be a tad higher jump, and some music. And I know the charather has a hair/cap, but does that really have to be in collision box?

Developer

I had no time to add music, but i have unused boss fight music which i REALLY like

Difficult game, and the controls are a little weird since you have to reach up and use the "o" and "p" keys to toggle the platforms. It's a good concept, though. If you are going to continue working on the game, I hope you fix the controls and reduce the difficulty.

That first jump to the pink block was much more difficult than the rest of the game. I was stuck on it for minutes. It was only through experimentation that I figured out that (A): The player has a very large collision box and (B): The player has INSANE coyote time! Like, good job for implementing that, it was quite helpful for the rest of the game and it made the control better, but the fact that the very first hard jump is predicated on jumping while *off* the ledge is pretty bad.

The rest of the game was not nearly as difficult, and I had a lot of fun! The keyboard control was quite awkward, but the mechanics were pretty decent.

The powerful wall jump was very fun. I loved getting that speed! There are a lot of good ideas here.

Good work!

That was fun! A good little speedrunning game.

Like many others I'm not a fan how the buttons are mapped, I managed to figure a way to fit the on off buttons and the jump button, but I think I'm the only player who found out that there's a run button. The level design itself isn't much of a problem(maybe aside from the alternating wall jump) as they are challenging and encourages the player to engage with the mechanics.

I admit , the alternating wall jump is basically impossible, and i couldnt think of anywhere else to map it. I HIGHLY reccomend using a controller for a better experience. Sorry about that ;C

No worries, I cheesed it anyway ;)

Developer

Fair enough :D

I had a good time playing your game; however, I believe the button assignments could use some adjustment. I'd recommend assigning the on and off buttons to keys that players can easily reach. Additionally, I found the levels to be quite challenging. Best of luck!

Developer

Yea, the button mapping kinda sucks. I also reccomend using a controller for an overall better experience. Thanks for the feedback.

Yea, the sound REALLY needs work. I dont like jsfxr (the sound maker built into GDevelop) but i needed a quick sound so i could focus on everything.

The game is difficult and requires very precise movements and jumps. As a concept, it's good, it just needs more refinement, although I like the main character, a tiny sprite. The sound should also be worked on. The jump sound reminds me of Commodore 64 games.

Developer

Also, I'm gonna try to learn how to make handrawn art for games. Should i make a platformer like this in a completely handrawn style?

There is no shame in using free assets. I'm terrible at pixel art and drawing in general and I mostly use free assets, but if you have a gift for drawing, then definitely do it.

Developer

I didnt use any free assets, i just used my OK pixel art skills.

Why is the screen so tiny lol? (Oh I see it's just the load screen, but still!). The jump sound effect is pretty awful, why not pick a normal jump sound? I liked the idea of turning blocks on/off (like Super Mario World), but some of the platforming mechanics are so advanced I died 4-5 times until I could finish the first area. I'd loosen up the difficulty a bit! Great concept, just need to clean up the execution a tad I think.

Developer

Since it was part of a deadline, I didn't have time to clean up a lot of the mechanics.  The title animation barely plays,  but i still have the slides that play as PNG files. I'll put them in the comments section of my game. And I didn't find most of the levels hard, but yet again I've played loads of Super Mario World, though i can admit level 4 is a absolutely HARD level with the tricky ice platforming and that DIFFICULT wall jumping section. If you think i should make an after-jam version where i have more time to finish it and make it more easy, reply to this.

Of course! I think it's a good idea, just needs a bit more TLC.

Developer

I also had boss music that went unused, but I think it could be used for something else

Also extensiON was one of my favourite games of this jam, but I couldn't get past the boss.
