Is a full color and 4-color version OK?

So I designed my game to be similar to a black cartridge, whereas its playable on a DMG in monochrome, and on a GBC in full color.  Unfortunately, while it runs great on a GBC, the lag is horrible on the DMG.  So my plan is to release two versions of the game, one with full color (because it would be a shame to throw all that work out the window).  And another one that would be strictly 4-color, using the DMG palette specifically for the jam.  So both versions would uploaded, as both .gb and .pocket files.  I can only upload a single web version, so I figured I would do that in full color.  Would this be allowed?

no. you can upload the full color version separately if you want, but your jam submission needs to follow the rules of the jam. also you don’t need to have a game that plays on actual hardware, just a web or windows build is fine.

OK,  so please tell me if this will work.  I'll upload the web version as 4-color.  Then I'll upload 2 .gbc files, one will be "game.gbc" and the other "game DX.gbc", and of course I'll have descriptions that explains the difference.  I would also do the same with the .pocket files.

So anyone playing off the web will only see 4 colors, but people downloading the game to play on orignal hardware or a Pocket or whatever else they have, can pick and choose between the two versions, or download both.

No. As Tim suggests, you're welcome to upload it separately, but that means on a completely different project page and not attached to your GBJAM submission at all. People may mistake the colored version for your submission and vote based on that (not everyone reads descriptions).

Alternatively, I could upload the DX files after the jam is over if you'd prefer, and just leave a note that they would be coming soon.

that should be fine. you can do whatever you want after the jam ratings are done (though i would encourage you to keep the 4-color jam version available for posterity).

as Polter said, some people may be confused by multiple versions and more than 4 colors, so you should leave the full color version completely out of the jam submission.

Sounds good, I totally get that not everyone reads stuff.  I hate to have two separate games for the same game so I'll just wait until the Jam is over.  And I'll definitely keep the 4-color version up there as well.  I grew up with DMG and never owned a GBC until 2 days ago (I figured if I'm going to make a game for it I should own it), so my nostalgia is for the 4-color version.

I really like the idea, but as the others have clarified it's best to not confuse people rating the game. Definitely upload the files once the jam is over though (or sooner, if you like, as a separate page - you should probably do this anyway so people get a suitable notification for it)
